Guest guest
Amy, 4 grains is a lot for Armour Thyroid! How did your doctor decide you needed so much? I'm on 1 grain, and it has improved my quality of life SO much in the past year. I'm wondering if even more might help. Is your doctor going by basal body temperature? I'm going to check mine again over the next few days. If you didn't think Cortef or adrenal gland helped, what are you going to try next if your Cortisol levels are off? I'm about to have that test too, and decide to maybe start Cortef. Have you heard of SeriPhos? (Phosphorylated Serine) That claims to support the adrenals. My DHEA and testosterone were normal, I wonder if I should have other hormones checked. Thanks for your input! Emma In a message dated 5/11/2008 2:09:47 P.M. The Armour Thyroid (4 grains) has been tremendous support to adrenals, as has progesterone and testosterone. Like you, if I don't take prog and test, I feel more tired in a few days. It appears I have enough estrogen, don't need estrogen. I take a super-duper tiny dose of something with estrogen in it, as it seems to make the progesterone work better. I have a hard time with pregnenolone & DHEA as both will make me swell & give me an edema type reaction. The theory is that somehow I'm getting an estrogen reaction from these... but just a theory. I can take 1 mg drop of each maybe once per week - but that's it. Even though I test very low in both of those. I started hormones, because apparently I just don't make them on my own. Except for estrogen ... I test in the middle for estrogen. Thanks for the recommendation for adrenal support. I've done the syringe bio's that you describe, and now my hormone are still bio's, but not in syringe. I'm using Dr. Lee sources for progesterone. I use 7 mg of prog daily except when on period. Guest guest
My Armour Thyroid dosage is based on blood testing. The 4 grains puts my free t3 at about 1/3 from the top of the range. I need 5 grains to be at the top of the range. Many of the holistic doctors like your free t3 to be in the top 1/3 of the lab range. This happens to be a good rule for me. But if I were one who felt bad with having my levels that high, then I wouldn't take that much. How you feel counts! I'm glad you're feeling better with thyroid meds. I can take very large doses & send my ft3 way above the normal range. But I won't hardly feel it. When I add in progesterone & testosterone, then I will feel the thyroid medication a bit more. So, how you feel with thyroid meds will also be based on levels of your other hormones. Something in me is broken because I barely feel it. My temps are always low - (96-97 degrees), regardless of whatever thyroid dose I take. Temperature is regulated by the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus, the pituitary and adrenals are the HPA axis. A number of markers (such as TSH) regulated by the HPA are not working for me. I do know about SeriPhos. This is phosphatidyl serine, which is supposed to *lower* cortisol. If one has high cortisol, then SeriPhos would be the brand to try. I have to stay away from this stuff, because my cortisol runs very low. You may be also be interested in phosphatidyl choline - this works differently from phosphatidyl serine. I have really liked the phosphatidyl choline! I have used Solaray brand as I found theirs worked THE best, but they no longer make it. I'm bummed because I know they don't all work the same. I need to get on that & try to find another source. I have a high regard for phosphatidyl lipids. Do you know if your cortisol test will be with saliva samples taken 4 times in 24 hours? It's not the only test, but it's a good one. If my tests show my body still doesn't make much cortisol, I will probably try again either Cortef or another adrenal extract. Because while Cortef didn't do but so much on it's own, perhaps it will work better when used synergistically with progesterone and testosterone. You see, these sex hormones are also made by adrenals (as well as ovaries). These sex hormones support the adrenals too! Sometimes taking one (such as cortisol or estrogen) is all one needs. Sometimes you need two (or more) of them. Amy emluv23@... wrote: > > Amy, > > 4 grains is a lot for Armour Thyroid! How did your doctor decide you > needed > so much?
