Guest guest
I feel that diet has been extremely important for me. However, I do have a hard time sticking with the best foods & that really irks me. In the most recent example, I was eating properly & using supplements that help. My fatigue lifted, brain cleared, mood improved. I felt soo good. And then I relaxed - I started eating bread, & cheese. After a few days, heavy fatigue came back, slowed thinking... I'm trying to correct it all again. I think I can fix it - make big improvements in just 3-4 days. Diet and certain supplements help a lot. I gain more ground when I include supplements, than with diet alone. Guest guest
I tested for food allergies and stay away from those foods. But no change, for me anyway. From: Tom <tscott2340@...> Subject: RE: rheumatic Re:Has anyone tried fasting for arthritis or researched food alergies c rheumatic Date: Sunday, November 9, 2008, 5:39 PM Wow! 15 days on just water!? How much weight did you lose? Did you not feel better after 7 days (as the book says to do)? I read her book and it is very interesting and I do believe a lot of people's arthritis is caused in part by food sensitivities. She says that if you don't feel better after the fast then your arthritis isn't caused by food (for the guy who asked what to do if it doesn't work). , did you ever consider to get food allergy testing done? How hard was the fast to do? Guest guest
Way back when I was first diagnosed with RA my conservative and respected rheumy (who wont give me minocycline) gave a public lecture about RA and stated that " if those with RA and other auto-immune diseases could stop eating they would be cured " . That is, so much of it is about the gut and digestion and sensitivities and allergies. Of course he then said that we'd die of starvation so it's not an option. Everyone laughed ruefully. So even though he doesn't say much about diet and food allergies to his patients, he just says to experiment ourselves and acknowledges that food has a lot to do with it. When I've fasted for several days I've noticed the pain diminish but it comes back again as soon as I start eating again. I have found (as have many others) that certain foods bring on flares. Alcohol, sugar, red meat, oranges and cooked tomatoes are my worst foods and seem to be common dangers for many RA people because they cause acidic conditions in the body. I also avoid gluten as much as possible to heal my damaged gut. But you really have to experiment yourself to find out what you're sensitive to. A short fast and then the gradual reintroduction of foods, one at a time, is the way to see if you have a bad reaction to them. Other people on this list will be able to tell you more about it.
