Guest guest
Well, today I did it. I got back into oncology nursing. At the oncology convention I decided that 4 years was too long to be away from direct care of cancer patients. There are too many new and exciting drugs and therapies out there, and I miss being a part of it. So I went with my ex to his chemo appointment at Alta Bates and talked to the nurse manager and the 2 charge nurses. I told them I'd like to pick up a couple of weekend shifts a month. Also told them that I'd like to work in the evening during the week sometime, but I didn't think they had any shifts like that. Surprise. So after they finished kissing my feet and offering me more per hour than the home IV company, I agreed that I could probably work a couple of 6-hour Sundays a month, and maybe every Thursday from 3 to 7 PM (since I work from home that day and my work day theoretically ends at 3:30 anyway). I just have to square things with my boss at Varian; I don't want him to think I'm short-changing him on the Thursdays. I will still work for the home care company, but I can do Friday evenings for them, and maybe still do the occasional Wednesday evening. The only down side to all this is that I'll probably be missing out on the Vallejo meetings. But I could come back to the Oakland meeting if I want to. I don't know, I really like these online meetings! Anyway, that's my latest exciting news. It's so nice to have a marketable skill that I enjoy and that actually has meaning in this crazy world.
