Dr. R just wants to know that you don't have any serious mental or emotional problems, you understand and have realistic expectations about the surgery, and that you have enlisted someone to be there to help you if you experience any depression or other emotional problems after the surgery. Mine was a simple one page letter saying that we had discussed the surgery and that I seem to understand the procedure and its outcome and that we discussed the possibility of post-op depression and the psych will be available to help me if I need it. Life physically harder? I'm 7 weeks post-op and already feel so much better. I have energy and stamina that I havn't had in years. While it's true that you could have problems for a couple of weeks (I didn't), the long of it is, if you want to be able to care for your Mother, you have to get healthy yourself. Think how much easier it will be if you aren't carrying around 100 extra pounds all day! I've only lost 35 and it's like night and day. Good luck to you. I hope we meet someday. " A term that is used like emoticons (smileys, frowns and etc) that express feelings since body language, facial expressions and tone of voice cannot be communicated through the written word. j/k is " just kidding " , etc. I suppose the letter to Dr R can be written in as many different ways as there are different personalities. I never saw any specified format listed, but it just has to contain the subjects specified. Kind of like writing a term paper in college. :-) A few have posted that they would forward theirs to anyone requesting it. Good luck, I'm finding it's not as easy as just putting words down on a piece of paper. Alot of emotions come ripping loose sometimes and I have to put it down and come back to it. But I'll get it done. Good luck to you. The doc talked to me for about 20 minutes wanted to know if there was any abuse in my history of if any was going on now. Wanted to make sure I was not suicidal either. Wanted to know how I was going to handle functions where the main thing was eating, like Thanksgiving. I told him I didn't expect it to be easy, but I am very determined and I am working on changing my eating habits and learning how to use my new tool. I then had to fill out a form that I swear had 400 questions on it. Most of them asking about drug abuse, mental or physical abuse and suicide in many different ways. It was all very easy. How much I knew about the "mechanics" of the surgery 2. If I understood and could tell him how my eating would change after surgery 3. If I understood the size of my pouch (i.e. the size of an egg, versus the old stomach which was the size of a deflated football). 4. If I had a support system in place 5. How my significant others/family felt about the surgery 6. How I thought my life would change after surgery. Actually, I learned a lot about myself and started seeing him once a month after the evaluation! Laurie W. PSYCH EVALUATION Somebody please give me the details for the psychcological evaluation.
