Guest guest
I have not posted for months as I have had some serious problems since Sep 08. I started SCD in Feb '08 and lost over 35 lbs by September. I had to go off SCD to try and stabalize my wieght during which I underwent a colonoscopy. The Dr. found no sign of any disease or gluten intolerance and has no idea why I am having so many digestive problems. I do have a history of digestive problems due to an operation in 1990 where I had part of my stomach and pancreas removed. So, my Dr. just thinks that my gut has been under stress and that is the problem. My other Dr who is more holistic, wants me to go back to SCD which did stablize my bowel movements but we are both concerned about the weight loss. I have no room to loose any more!!! So, if anyone has any ideas on how I can go back on SCD and maintain and even gain weight, please tell me! Thanks so much! Sue
Guest guest
Sue, I can't help you in the weight department because I'm pretty thin myself and losing since starting SCD. One thing I wanted to mention though is that microscopic colitis is a condition that can only be diagnosed with biopsies during your colonoscopy. My colon looked beautiful according to my GI, but my biopsies did not -- microscopic colitis (lymphocytic). Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. During the colonosopy the Dr. did take a biopsy and found nothing. So...still a mystery. Hi Sue - You don't mention whether you have problems with any SCD-legal foods (i.e. dairy), but my approach for re-gaining weight after starting SCD was to add butter and cheese to everything possible (brie has been a favorite snack), make your yogurt out of half-and-half, make ice cream out of full-cream yogurt, etc. As Marilyn has suggested, it's probably worthwhile to figure out how many calories you're consuming in a day and make sure you're consuming more than you need. Hope this helps - good luck! Kathy UC since 12/05 SCD since 7/07 med-free since 7/
Guest guest
Hi Sue,Can you tell me how you are loosing weight? What are you eating? I lost weight at the beginning but have since gained ALL of it back. I eat waffles pretty much every morning. We use the midas gold pancake recipe in BTVC. Sometimes I'll make a honey syrup and most of the time I use a legal peanut butter mixed with lots of honey and eat it like a sandwich. Monster cookies are a must too. I'll eat plenty of them sometimes with the same peanut butter and honey. I snack with different legal cheeses and maybe some more peanut butter. Pizzas and Lasagna are always good for dinner. I guess the point is there are lots of great recipes that are SCD legal that are tasty, filling, healthy and can add weight. It is not usually how much you eat as much as it is what you eat. Try replacing some of the foods you currently eat with some of the more fatty SCD foods. And do let me know what you are eating as i need to loose some. thanks,-- CD 7 yearsSCD since 6 Aug '06email: andrew.bodley@..."I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man with no feet." - Persian Proverb I have not posted for months as I have had some serious problems since Sep 08.
