Guest guest
Teri, Can't help you with the Gabitril, that isn't one of the meds that I've taken over the years... I'm sure someone else will speak up, though. I have heard of some meds giving people nightmares. As for the Ketamine/Lidocaine IV treatments, I believe that they were just "approved" in July so I think that more Drs. are becoming aware of them, and starting to use them more frequently. I would certainly ask your Dr. if you think you would like to try it. Hugs, Jo
Guest guest
Teri, STOP Taking the Gabitril!!!! The throwing up is a sign that you can be allergic to it. I took it for 7 days. The first 3 was fine. the 4th, I broke out in hives. the 5th, I started throwing up. I kept taking it, thinking it was a side effect and it would go away.....but, it just got worse, so I stopped taking it and called the Psych that gave it to me and told him what was going on, and he said that it was a good thing that I had stopped taking it when I did.....and, at my next appt., he'd switch me to something else. Well, he put me on Topamax then. So, if you are just on the starting dose of Gabitril, it is safe to just stop taking them right now, and call your doctor, demand to talk to either him or the nurse in charge IMMEDIATELY!!! and tell them what is going on ASAP!!! Tonia -------Original Message------- Here goes with the questions...hope there are some of you out there that can give me some answers. First... Has anyone here ever been on Gabitril? Doc gave it to me to help me sleep, however I know that it isn't meant specifically for that. I am not thinking that it is helping me out though. I take it like doc said about 30 minutes before I am ready for bed...however I am still up within 2 hours of taking it. Also I noticed that I am having some pretty bad dreams since I have started taking it. I called and left a message for the nurse, but for all of you that have kept up on me and N. talking about how terrible she is about returning calls you know that I haven't heard back from her yet. The questions I wanted to ask her are about it not working well, and the fact that I get EXTREMELY nauseous and have gone through a few times that the nausea has actually turned into actually throwing up. I don't know if the combination of the Gabitril and the Morphine is what is making me sick or what. They never said! that I shouldn't take them together. I am taking the Gabitril along with the prescribed dosage of Morphine and I just really think that I should be sleeping more than 2 hours. Any info or ideas would be appreciated. Guest guest
Tonia, Well as you obviously have heard me an talk about is not get our phone calls returned by the nurse from hell. I left a message 2 days ago and have yet to hear back from her. I am not breaking out and not always throwing up...mostly just nauseous and I get slightly nauseous when I just take the morphine. I honestly believe that it is the combination of the additional dosage of morphine and the gabitril together. But thanks for the heads up...I am trying to get it figured out! Guest guest
Kenny, As with all things....reactions to medications are different for all. I have never had any major problems with taking the morphine. Any nausea that I have when only taking the morphine is mostly cause I don't eat much and get nauseous very easily. As I stated..I believe that it is taking the morphine and gabitril together. I am glad that you are happier taking the percocet. As for the methodone yes it has worked well for many...but that doesn't mean that it is the right med for all. Because you have not been around very long..you probably are not completely aware of my situation. I am only taking the morphine until I have my surgery to fix my SCS. I get wonderful relief from the SCS so I won't be on any meds once it is up and working correctly. I will thrilled when I don't have to worry about popping pills anymore!!!! Teri -- Re: Few Questions.... Hello there I am not going to say, sorry for butting in, because we are family, so I just wanted say I had a real problem with taking morphine, I took that time release kind, and I could tell you when it would release, I would get so sick in my gut. I got the doc to put me on percocets, till I see the new nero doc, I like the percocets but they are for long term use. I am going to talk to the doc about methadone, I have heard a lot of good things about it, like how in stays in your system, so when I wake up the morning there is still some there, till I can take my morning dose, right now the mornings are pure HELL for me, I don't want to go to bed anymore, because I don't want to wake up. Guest guest
Kenny, You are exactly right, that is the best part of the Methadone, that some residual is always in your body, so you don't go up and down with regular pain pills. Most docs say it is easier to maintain the pain then it is to chase the pain. I hope you are able to switch...I've only had morphine drip but I know that makes me sick as a dog....I imagine the pills would do the same. Good luck and keep us posted. <hugs> Lori
