Guest guest
A couple of weeks ago I was at a restaurant and some low-life stole my walker. I notified my insurance company, but because it was brand new, and I had had it less than six months, they will NOT cover a new one for me. I joined freecycle last week, and last night someone offered a brand-new walker, still with the tags on. I posted a quick response, I was lucky enough to have been checking my mailbox within 10 minutes or so after she posted it, and she called me within the next hour about it. It turns out she has a doctor's appointment today not far from where I live, and she is delivering it to me about 11 this morning!! I have seen lots of good stuff up for grabs there, but it goes FAST!! If you don't get your " dibs " in within a half hour or so of the offer, it's gonna be GONE!! Anyway, it's a great site. Even the things you would think nobody would want are taken!! I recommend this for all of you, who like myself, are on a limited budget. Usually you have to make arrangements to pick it up yourself, which kind of limits me for large items, but if there was something I REALLY needed, I would find a way to get there. Just a 'heads up' to anyone who hasn't thought of joining. If there's something you really need, bet it will turn up there. You can also make requests. I've even seen computers and removalble hard drives offered. They have to tell you if the stuff works, what condition it's in, etc. Yesterday there was one that said something like 'ugly yellow armchair', and it was posted as taken within an hour. Also someone requested a certain stuffed animal for a teenager, and within a few minutes someone had offered to make one for her!! It just shows that the spirit of giving is still alive and well, and I find that so inspiring. If you do join, you might want to open a new email account just for that, there are TONS of mails each day. Also, each city has it's own group, so it will all be local.
