Rhonda,

I have a friend who lost all her hair when her boy had to have heart

surgery. She lost it due to stress. Now that the little guy is running

around, all her hair is back too! She was VERY thin in the front and has

almost regained it all!!!!! Hope this helps! PAige

Thanks Paige for your response...and your encouragement...Made me stop and

think....and for me the hair loss is a small price to pay for the great

acheivement of the surgery...feeling hopeful again and seeing my life

improve each and every day as a result of the life changing surgery that Dr.

Rutledge has made possible for all of us...I do thank God each day for it

and I will be praying for everyone on this list that is or will be trying to

have the surgery and must fight the insurance companies....

So Paige...thanks again for your kind message

Great advice Cheryl....and I really appreciate your 2 cents worth and taking

the time to give it....I think I will do just as you say and wait it

out...make sure I am taking the proper and adequate nutrients and pray that

it slows down really soon..:) Thanks again and congratulations on your

success of losing 85 lbs and your wonderful marriage...(I loved reading

about your love between you and Rudy prior to your marriage and it was very

refreshing and uplifting)

I have long thick hair so it was less noticeable to others. I thought

about the topical treatments but decided to wait it out. Once you start

them, you can't stop and I wasn't willing to commit to that yet. I'm

Lori, don't panic. I had significant hair loss starting at about 4 months

and am now almost 8 months post-op. My hair is beginning to grow back in

and the shedding has lessened considerably. It will stop - you just have to

let nature take its course.

Lori,

I, too, experienced hair loss at around 4 months post-op and I was quite

distraught about it. I considered topical hair loss treatments but

decided against them after reading about them. They require committment

to use them for life or the hair regrowth stops. I wasn't prepared to do

that yet.

I made sure that I took my vitamins faithfully and stopped using

highlights for my hair. I added Vitamin A, E, and C to my regimen and

was faithful about my calcium from Tums. All I can say is that now at 7

months post-op the hair loss has slowed considerably and I think it will

soon stop. I was fortunate that I had long thick hair and the loss was

most noticeable to my hairdressor, myself and my husband. I found a

shampoo and conditioner called Amplify by Matrix that helps a little

with the thin look of my hair.

I don't have a magical cure or suggestion. I wish I did. I hope that I

have given you a small amount of encouragement in my words. Hopefully

for you, " This too shall pass " .

Dear Lori,

I don't know if it will help you or not, I am not post-op, but I was having

some abnormal hair loss. It may be a result of lack of vitamins/minerals in

your body or even stress. My beautician told me to take a biotin supplement.

I started taking Lessman's Complete for Women vitamins (which

included biotin) for about a month now and I'm noticing less breakage/hair

loss. Those vitamins are available through the Home Shopping Network. The

vitamins are capsules with a fine powder filler instead of a hard molded

capsule. I'm sure with the change since you're surgery and now the hair

loss, I'd be willing to guess, you've also been a little stressed. Take a

deep breath and blow it out, count to 10. And trust that " things will get

better. " That's what my grandmother use to always tell me. It sounds like

you are really concerned and I don't blame you, it may not be a bad idea to

consult with your physician.

Good Luck,

Betty (RN)

Good morning everyone....Happy Hump Day....I was 4 months post op on

4-30-04. For about a month now I have been losing hair like crazy.

Not that I didn't have a lot to begin with. My hair is blonde, very

fine and thin and always wore it shoulder length and layered. Lately

I have been getting depressed every time I use my comb and it seems

like handfuls of hair coming out. Finally yesterday I went to see my

friend who is a hairdresser. I told her how sick of losing hair I

was. She commented that I had lost quite a bit of hair since I saw

her before my surgery. She ended up cutting it short and layer

which it looks only a little thicker even though you can see thru to

my scalp. Does it get better and possibly how long before hair

starts to grow back? Also it seems that I am staying at the same

weight for the last couple of weeks. Maybe this is adding to my head

depression right now. Guess I need a little pick me up somewhere or

somehow. Please let me know if there is something else to help with

the hair. I am getting in my protein along with taking Biotin. Hope

everyones day is a good one.

ton of hair to. It has stopped falling out, thank god. Yours will to.

I am using a shampoo called Murad. It helps with hair growth. I also

With the plato your hitting don't worry it will PASS,you body need a

change to catch up to all the weight you have already lost.

Just keep posting, and venting. Thats what were here for.

Martha, Shell, and Ramona...Thank you so much for your encouragement and

advice about the hair loss. I guess it is just hard to go so short with my

Hi Shirley,

I don't have any advice for you, but I thought I'd let you know that you

certainly aren't alone. I'm a month further out than you are. My hair

has been falling out for about the last month and it was pathetically

thin to begin with. I have been assured that it will grow back, but

unfortunately the loss often lasts for about 3 months. Sigh . . .

My weight has also been stuck for the last two or three weeks. I try

not to let it get me down. In my pre-surgery days, that discouragement

at a plateau would always be the trigger for my giving up. I won't let

that happen again. Just talking to folks who have gone through the same

things helps keep me on track.

Here's hoping that the hair stops falling and the weight starts falling

again.

All the best,

Kay

Kay....thank you for the words of encouragement. I think about the plateau it

just makes me want to eat more protein and drink more water. Sure all those

fatty foods come to mind, but it is just a thought. I know that if I had a

taste of them I would just think it was okay and I don't want to do that.

Today is my weigh and measure date at Curves. Hopefully if I am not down in

weight, perhaps the inches are gone. I know that I am not alone with the hair

thing and wonderful to have people here to listen.

Thank you all for all your help.

I had so much hair loss it was scary! The only thing that helped me

was that I have so much hair no one but me and noticed. It

came out in handfuls. I will admit to NOT taking my vitmins as I

should. It lasted for like three months. I started using a shampoo

called Murad and started taking my vitmins everyday and its slowly

stopped falling out.

, thanks for sharing some of your

precious energy to chime in on this! : -

BTW, I also purchased a biotin supplement

at Wal-Mart for about 4 bucks (1500 mcg tablets) and I just started taking one

a day with all my other supplements. Too soon to tell if it will help me, but my

other friend who had WLS and is a cosmetologist swears by it.

Hair Loss

Hi everyone

Im still kinda slow answering posts as I tire so

easily. When I began

losing my hair I took a capsule called Biotin,

available at stores

like GNC. It helped and eventually stopped all

together. I did lose

it in handfulls though and it was scary while it

was happening. It

has all grown back and no one could ever see any

bald spots.

I am watching the view today and one of the topics was a volumizer. I

did not catch the name of the product and will check when it is

online after 4:00 pm today. but I wanted anyone who can catch it at a

different time to watch that segment. I will post later the name of

the product as it makes it look quite fuller!
