Gemello,

Glad you're having all that support. That's a very good idea. Sorry about

your mom, sounds like she needs an intervention with the cigs!

You're not being vain. You need to get rid of extra skin because some

medical study I saw somewhere (vague enough for you?) said that pts. who

have reconstructive surgery are more compliant (as opposed to have more

complaints, hahaha). Also:

Clothes fit better.

There's less opportunity for infections and rashes and irritations.

You have better balance and it's easier to walk properly.

There's less strain on your back when the belly skin is reduced.

You save money on skin lotion, baby powder, and razors because you have

less territory to maintain.

You can finally get that navel piercing you've always wanted.

You kill fewer animals because you can buy smaller-size leather fetish

wear. Oops, delete that.

You can reach everything without spraining your shoulders.

The person underneath of you doesn't need a snorkel anymore to breathe.

You need less fuel to achieve lift-off.

It's easier to find your, uh, you know.

I like the term 'reconstructive' and I'm training myself to use it rather

than 'plastic' because I think our surgery is, in most cases, simply

restoring us to a normal appearance-- it's not really for vanity.

Martha!

You really should go to an open mike night at a comedy club (if

you're not already a stand-up comedienne). Wouldn't it be cool if

you became famous as the first " gastric bypass " stand-up?

I'm going to print out these reasons and show them to my

family/friends so that they can have good laugh too.

Thanks for the laugh (second one today). You know, I have to

remember the " reconstructive " word too. After all, I don't want to

be Brad Pitt (well, maybe in a little pipe dream), I just want to

have a " normal " appearance.

Laughter is the best medicine.
