<< This has to be what will work for me. It is just wonderful to see

and hear how effective the MGB is for people like us that have been through

hell and back trying to obtain a normal weight and can not. >>

Hi, Jerry! How nice to hear from you! If you haven't already e-mailed them,

there are two men who've had a terrific response to their MGBs and you may

want to e-mail them in the future. One is Van Stockwell (vaka@...) and

the other is Dave Vinocur (kaleva@...). Both of these men have

incredible stories to tell.

Now that means that I've assumed that the way that you spell your name means

that you're a male. If I've made the usual error in assuming, then just set

me straight!

You're doing a very special thing for your health, Jerry; this is a

wonderful opportunity. My blood pressure is down 30 points and I had my MGB

in mid-December. It'll be four weeks tomorrow! Dee in MI.

Good luck Jerry.

I had to lose 30 lbs also but I promise you, it was worth it. I had

began at 384 on March 13 and today I weigh 271 or less. I haven't

weighed in a week. That is 113 lbs gone from here forever. I love how I

feel now.

Its good thing to check out any health concerns before surgery. My

sister had breathing problems she never mentioned and after surgery had

complications.

I wish you good health.

Hi my name is Susie and I am looking forward to the next step to having my WLS. I will be completing my Nutrition Class next Monday. Then I will be calling Sunnyside and plan from there.

I have read everything about this surgery and have talked to several people who had the WLS. It is something I know helps us who are fighting a long hard battle to have a better chapter on life. I also read the article about WLS gains in the PEOPLE magazine recently and even though I hope I do not gain, I really feel that lighter is better and I will focus not on weight but health.

I am going to be 48 in June. My girls are 20 and 21. My oldest daughter lives in FL, and although I miss, she is happy with the love of her life. That what I want for my girls is to be happy. I have been divorce from their Dad in 2001 and we are still friends. It was something that had to change in my life and it has been good. I married in 01 also and he passed on after a heart attack in Sept of 2002, 18 months was all we had together. I now have someone very special in my life and he is from TX, his name is Steve and I thank my Lord everyday for him.

My mom passed away 2/27/04 and that has been quite a blow for me. But also the reason why I want to have the WLS. Yes I will admit I would love to buy clothes off a rack, I think that is every heavy person dream no matter what. And yes I want to be more active.......and active is being healthy. Health is my goal, I have high blood pressure, arithitis and now a bad knee. I also have sleep aphnia...however you spell that....I called my Kaiser advisor and let her know about all the trails in my life and she been very supportive. I feel this is something I am doing for me and me alone. Not for happiness for happiness is what your heart desires....not your weight or money or whatever. My mom had diabetis and a bad heart,. At this time I am having a hard time breathing being 390 pounds. I am happy now with who I am and now I am ready to be healthy and change my bad habits for life.

I have a good sense of humor and a positive attitude. I am not scared or worried about having the surgery, I am concern that I am doing all I can to have a healthy and full recovery. I am a social worker better known in the Public Housing Industy as a Family Self Sufficiency Coordinator. I help familiese to be free from public assistance and if they work hard hopefully home ownership. I have no brother or sisters and my father is still alive. He has a great sense of humor too. We are getting to know each other better since mom passed on.

My childhood was very different being an only child and raised in a family where Dad own two gas stations and worked in a paper mill, my mom was his partner. There was no time or reason for our schedule whether it was eating or relaxing, we just learned to grab what is available as it comes. smile...I think that met grabbing the goodies too..oops!!! smile.

My job is my second family, my co-workers have supported me to the most with everything, from being there when my late husband passed away. The tears when my daughter moved to FL, the lost of my mother.....and they been there for all the good times. Like having toilet paper sticking out of the back of my pants and laughing at a good joke. Lots of hugs are available where I work and I am very fortunate to have my second family share their love and joy with me!

Steve is my diamond in the rough, he gentle and strong, silly and serious.....he is very supportive of me and for the first time in my life I feel that I will be safe because I can feel my friends and family love. Some of my friends do not understand why I can't just diet and lose but they are seeing that I am making changes and how I handle life barriers is not to look down but up. After all that is where my mom is ... in heaven.

I am ready, I am just waiting for Kaiser to catch up with me!!!! smile... I am sure I will learn more than I thought I could know about myself and about my values. But I do know one thing I want to lose weight so I can breath, bend, walk, enjoy nature and be energized to tackle any mountain in front of me. If I do not have this surgery I will lose ..... my breathing will become more shallow, my activities will be limited and my happiness will suffer. I am ready and I cannot wait to pal up with others in this group.. after all we are a special bunch of people...smile! we have different lives and differnt gifts and traditions in handling life issues but we have a common bond and that is to be healthy!

Oh yes, I love to write....so pardon me if I get long winded...LOL.. uh oh... bad Susie.. Please keep in touch. I am looking forward to hearing from you all. Laurel you are my classmate at Cascade in the Nutrition class and I like to thank her for telling me about this group. Thank you Laurel!!!!

Lots of hugs

Hi Susie,

Welcome aboard! This group is my home on the internet and the folks here

have given me incredible support and invaluable information. I hope that

it proves to be as valuable to you.

Don't worry about being long-winded. All the better to get to know you.

BTW where are you? You mentioned Sunnyside, but I don't know if that is

Southern California or Sacramento or Oregon or wherever. Just curious because

the Kaiser routines seem to be different in various areas.

All the best,

Kay

Thank you Shanna I would love to lean on you a bit. I will be going

to Sunnyside also and CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss.... I bet

you are feeling better. I am still a little confused where I am in

this process, I will be completing my nutrition class tonight and

then I will call Lou.....I think I had the Orientation last

December if it is the same one everyone is talking about not

sure.....it was like an intro.....and here we go type of thing....had

some family issues to deal with (my mother passed away) and so things

kinda been dragging along. Especially this darn nutrition class that

kept getting canceled...but that is history! I am onward and

forward. I hope to hear more from you. How did you like your stay

at Sunnyside and how long where you there?

Lots of hugs Susie....still confused but getting somewhere! smile

Hi susie,

It sounds like you have been to the orientation. Call lou as

soon as you are done with your nutrition class and she will get you

on to the next apt you need. One piece of advice is to keep on top

of calling marylou and making sure you are scheduled for things you

should be scheduled for. The next steps for you are meeting with the

social worker and nutritionist (keep up with your food diaries, she

will want to see them) and start going to support group meetings.

Things are going pretty well for me. My surgery was 3 wks ago this

past monday and I am down 35lbs. I had my surgery on monday

afternoon and was home by noon on wednesday. All of the staff at

sunnyside was SO NICE and very attentive, I have only good things to

say about them. Anyway, things are going really good (still trying

to figure out the eating part o this) but I was also able to start

back at my water aerobics class last night which I did really

slowly, but it felt good to get in the water and get moving

again...ok, I think that's long enough for now...LOL

take care

Hi Kym,

Welcome aboard! I see that you've already found the group useful and I

am sure that you will continue to find it informative and supportive.

This group is my home on the internet because I've always found the

folks here to be an invaluable resource - and it is certainly the one

place that I know folks will understand my concerns and celebrations.

You said " I think my biggest worry is to have the surgery and wind up

being completely miserable for the rest of my life. " Well, I've spoken

with hundreds of people through various message boards and in-person

support groups, including some who have had to cope with some serious

complications - and out of all those folks, only one has said that she

regretted having the surgery. I know that there must be others, but

those who stay in touch with support groups seem to be generally happy

that they had WLS.

I look forward to getting to know you. Please, let us know how things

are goings as you progress, ask any questions that come to mind, express

any concerns and celebrate any milestones.

Kym,

Welcome, and great attitude about taking this time to prepare

yourself...I know the thought of having this surgery and all the

risks can be scary...but, kaiser goes to great lengths to make sure

you are in the best possible health going into this...you are in good

hands! Just keep in touch with this and/or whatever support groups

and message boards, you'll learn a lot and it makes the time go

faster. Good luck and hold on, you're in for the ride of your life!
