Hi everyone,

Sorry its been awhile since I posted anything..there are a couple

flights of stairs between me and my computer and I havent really

felt like navigating them until now....ANYWAY...just wanted to let

you all know that I am now 10 days out from open RNY and am feeling

pretty good. Everything went really well...a lot better then I

expected! I had my surgery on monday morning and was home in my

recliner by noon on wednesday. Doc has me on liquids for 2 weeks

(which I am getting really sick of) so, monday I get to move onto

pureed food...whoopie! Incision is healing well and I am feeling

good other then gettting tired out pretty easily. The really good

news is I went to see my PCP yesterday and I had lost 13lbs since

the day before surgery (total of 56 now, I had lost 43 before

surgery) and my blood pressure has gone done from 145/90 (on meds)

to 120/70 doc says if it gets any lower he'll cut the meds inhalf

and hopefully eventually I'll be off of them altogether.

The only trouble that I am having now is being really ready to move

on to something other then liquids and when I see a commercial for

food, like a bid steak dinner or something I just think dang, I'll

never be able to eat a big dinner like that again but then again I

think thank goodness I cant do that to myself anymore...weird

concept to wrap you head around at this point. Anyway, that's where

I'm at, just thought I'd give an update.

Shanna,

I'm glad to hear everything went so good. Sounds like everything is uphill from this point on.

Glad to hear that everything went so well, Shanna! We all know what you mean about the liquids stage. Boring and frustrating. I remember being angry, really angry, that my eating was so limited for the first few months. I couldn't believe how much anger I had under the surface. Some people go through mourning -- I went through anger, ha. Guess I was medicating myself with food, which sadly is true of a lot of us.

I'm 11 months out (almost) now, and believe me, your capacity to eat a variety of foods does indeed increase. The volume is a lot less, but the variety will gradually return. So enjoy these days while they last. ;-)

Glad you're doing so well, Shanna. I'm sorry I wasn't able to come see

you while you were in the hospital.

Keep up the good work. Congratulations for being on the other side!

Hi Shanna,

Glad to hear that your are home and doing well. Great news about your

blood pressure. In all likelihood, you'll could be completely off meds

for it in the not-terribly-distant future.

Wow . . . two weeks on liquids. Is this standard up in your neck of the

woods?

Get plenty of rest and take care,

Kay

Thanks for the well wishes...yes, 2wks of liquids (nutrition drink

and other clear liquids) is standard for our program. I am now on my

2nd day of being able to have solids and feel SO MUCH better now,

more energy and feeling human again, although I am still getting

really tired out quickly! I'm looking forward to the possibility of

no more meds and hopefully no more CPAP!!

Hope you're feeling well. Good news about Sandy! I have my orientation

June 19th. It seems like a very long time away. I tried for a

cancellation for this month's class but no go.

It will be here before you know it! And things progress rather

regularly from there, although it does take like a month between

each apt. Hang in there!!
