We have had a few setbacks along the way but overall he is doing great. In addition to the diet he also takes 2mg of LDN and probiotics from Lucy's Kitchen Shop. Good Luck!!! Guest guest
--Sorry for the abbreviation. LDN stands for Low Dose Naltrexone. This is a new medication that is currently being studied for crohn's. It has to be compounded at a compounding pharmacy. It has nothing to do with SCD although I believe several other list members are on the drug as well. For more info. google LDN Crohn's. It is being studied by a dr. jill smith in pennsylvania. (i can't remember if its Univ. of Penn. or Penn. State) Anyway my son has done very well on the diet but did have some residual cramping and this drug did away with that. He has done so well with this combination (SCD and LDN)we will just keep going and hope his health continues!!! - In BTVC-SCD , Bertram wrote: > > Please explain to me because I am new and I don't know what all the abb. stand for. what is LDN ? thank you > > > > > > > Subject: Re: Who eats the full SCD Diet? > To: BTVC-SCD > Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 8:45 AM > > > > > > > > >My 11 yo son has eaten the full SCD diet for over a year. we spent a > week on the intro and then moved on fairly quickly according to the > directions in Breaking the Vicious Cycle. Guest guest
Hi , " dd " stand for " dear daughter " or " darling daughter " We started her on SCD right after she was diagnosed at age 8 1/2. She spent a week in the hospital, and her GI doc later told me it was " a miracle " that she didn't need surgery. She has been VERY strict to stick to the diet for almost three years (me too!). She has weaned off of Prednisone, Flagyl, Prilosec and Imuran. Imuran was the last one to go. We probably could have taken her off it before, but she wasn't having any side effects. When we began to think of taking her off the diet, I knew we would want her very stable without meds to even think of coming a bit off the SC diet, so, here we are, six months med-free. Wishing you good health, Ellen
