Sorry, folks, this is off topic . . . but a big part of my life.

Hi ,

The answer is sorta yes & no.

The Faire at Black Point was started by the s (and was

officially produced by The Living History Center), but it was sold to

the Renaissance Entertainment Corporation (REC) some time before the

faire moved to the Nut Tree. The REC faire moved from the Nut Tree to

Casa de Fruta down in Hollister a couple of years ago. After last

year's fair down there, REC announced that they will no longer be

producing a faire in Northern California. A new group, Play Faire

Productions, will be producing a faire at Casa de Fruta this year.

The Renaissance Faire at Stafford Lake in Novato (officially known as

The Heart of the Forest Renaissance Faire) is being produced by As You

Like It Productions - which is run by the s. This year will be

the 3rd year at Stafford Lake. It feels very much like the Black Point

faire and there are lots of faire folk there from the Black Point days.

I hope that this isn't too confusing. And, forgive me if I'm telling

you Faire history that you already knew.

. . . I wonder if our paths might have crossed. I've been doing

faire since the late 1970's. My booth is Innyard Games.

BTW . . . I could use some more folks at my booth and I'd love to hear

from anyone who might be interested in volunteering. There's no pay -

but, in exchange for a 4-hour shift, you do get a pass into the faire

and we do provide food and drink.

All the best,

Kay

I might of missed it, but when is the fair? Maybe it would be really

cool if we all went and supported the fair and also got to meet

each other. What a fun place to spend the day with new friends and

while we are there maybe some of us could help kay. I for one would

love to.

Hi Shell,

The Heart of the Forest Renaissance Faire at Stafford Lake in Novato

runs 6 weekends, starting on July 10 and ending on August 15.

The box office price for adult tickets is $20, but the advance sale price

is $15 - and , even better, the tickets are only $13 each for groups of

15 or more. That includes parking. It is a great deal of fun.

(I look forward to actually getting out and see more of it this year - last

faire was before my surgery and I was still dragging myself around on crutches

then.)

The web site address is

http://www.forestfaire.com/marin/main-mc.html

If anyone would like to participate at the Faire as more than a customer,

feel free to drop me a note at biddy@... and I'll let you know what all

is involved.

Thanks, everybody, for letting me post about this. I know it is off the

topic of WLS . . . but wanting to be able to get out and enjoy events like

this is one of the reasons I had surgery.

Many thanks and good wishes to you all,

Kay

Hi ,

I remember the Barleycorn Inn - but I never really spent time there.

The game you described is Tilt-a-Lid - it was part of the Rose & Stag Games.

Innyard Games was further up the road, on the right, toward the " center

of the universe " - we were partially tucked in behind an ale stand.

Mouse-in-the-Maze is the one of our games that most people remember. I

also taught Herbal Folklore & Folkways at the pre-faire workshops.

Hot days are certainly not among my favorite things - but I really love

being in costume - as long as I have one that really fits. A bodice (or

corset) that doesn't fit really good is BAD! Ouch!!! Obviously my

bodice from last year doesn't fit - but for the best of reasons - it is

way, way too big. Luckily, I have kept my old costumes - the ones that

I could no longer wear because I'd gotten too big. I'm going to be able

to wear my oldest (and most favorite) bodice this year. It fit pretty

good last month when I tried it on and I may have to take it in by the

time faire starts.

It is the people at faire that make it so special. Even at my biggest,

I never felt out of place or put down at faire - which is something that

I can't say about most of the rest of the world. I truly love my faire

family and feel loved by them. Oh . . . and I met my husband there.

Unfortunately, yes, anyone who wants to volunteer will need to be in

costume. I do have some loaner costumer pieces, but the supply is

limited and no telling if I have the right sizes. I generally use the

loaner pieces to help folks who haven't quite gotten it all together,

but who do have some parts of their costumes.

The Stafford Lake Faire is in July and August.

I don't know if the Reduced Shakespeare folks will be there.

Well . . . , I am delighted to have found another faire folk here.

It's a small world and all that.

Take care,

Kay
