I'm most intrigued by the Klebsiella, particularly if it's Klebsiella

pneumoniae (Kp). Kp is indicted as an underlying cause for IBD and I

can give you the whole theory if you don't already know it. What's

your ailment and current symptoms?

Kp feeds off particular branched polysaccharides. I assume you're on

the SCD. How long and are you strict?

Hi Doug,

I'm not a, but am interested in your whole theory here, as I

am not famaliar with it - I have Klebsiella pneumoniae overgrowth,

and one of my sons has Klebsiella Oxytoca. I am interested in any

info you can provide. Kind TIA for replying here -

look like I am pregnant - since 11/18/2008. It never goes away but

WOW!!!! These are the exact same symptoms I have had since Thanksgiving

when I ate broccoli. Some weeks are better but it's getting really bad.

I have been strict SCD for 13 months and have had a few illegals on

accident... NEVER on purpose. This is my current list of symptoms:

* swollen abdomen, especially after eating

* weight gain, but not out of control. actually, i'll gain from 124 to

130, go back down to 124, get back up to 130 all in a week's time.

* swollen eyelids

* water retention

* extreme fatigue

* constipation - i hardly have any bowels movements and i'm on elaine's

C protocol. i can't take magnesium citrate because it makes me retain

too much water and causes me to flare a little. i think i might have

developed an intolerence to it at the beginning of the diet because i

took it so much.

* mild headaches, which i contributed to more caffeine intake

* mild pain in my intestines

* hemroid problems

The fatigue is probably the thing that's plauging me the most right

now. Without going to the doctor, does anyone know of a way to test for

bacterial/yeast overgrowths. I can't afford the doctor let alone the

tests i would need.

Doug,

I'm also interested your knowledge of KP, so hope you will post to the

group.

My teenage son was found to have KP overgrowth through a Genova stool

test. Genova tests sensitivity of the pathogens they found, and

reported Cipro would work against it, along with natural agents that

included Berberine, Oregano, Plant Tannins and Uva-Ursi, all of which

showed mid range inhibition levels. Our holistic doctor recommended the

Cipro and it worked really well in terms of decreasing frequency and

firming up the stool. But my son has had C-diff issues, and after

awhile, the doctor felt the Cipro may have been contributing to the

C-diff recurring, so we stopped that. We are likely moving on to the

natural agents at this point. Certainly interested to learn from you.

Thank you.

Sally

Misty, can you tolerate any other forms of magnesium? A fellow SCDer

who works at a health store recommended I take magnesium malate. I've

also got some magnesium glycinate (which is chelated).

Have you tried the beet brownies for constipation? They taste pretty

darn good! The only thing I don't like about them is that they are way

more moist than just plain pecan butter brownies.
