I am allergic to Benadryl and my PC physician is starting to suspect I am allergic to Lidocaine also, which are two of the main ingredients in the normal "swish and swallow" mixture my onc prescribes. Any ideas on what I could use? I have the sores on the side and tip of my tongue and along the gumline by the lower teeth, kind of towards the inside of the chin. Please let me know if you know of anything to soothe, I did do the ice chips, Popsicle etc the day of Chemo, guess it did not help.....I am doing the dose dense A and C right now...Also, about two days ago, my scalp started itching like crazy...Does that mean my hair is about to "go to sleep" as Lu would say? Any idea on how to stop the itch, or just grin and bear like I do with the rest of the effects?...I got the Neulasta shot two days after Chemo and since I had learned what to expect by reading your posts, I was prepared. Thank you for that. I was soooooo weak, felt like I had led in my veines, that was only 48 hours after the first Chemo. Did it happen that fast to anyone else? Went in for the shot and within about one hour I perked right up, my husband was amazed. I was told about the "big bone pain" and mine set in in the sternum, kind of like an elephant sitting on your chest, not that I ever had one sit on my chest, but Tylenol took care of it and now one week after the shot, no pain at all. I guess that is something to be thankful for...Trisha I wish for you to get that energy back up soon. "happy one week on the new job Anniversary", hope your energy becomes what you need it to be. Everyone else, thank you for listening and I apologize if I bore or offend anyone with my long mails or questions or input....Take care and hugs from Kansas to everyoneCaren in Kansas

Guest guest
Caren, I had my first treatment on Thursday, April 27th. So far, no mouth sores (but, I'm 3 days behind you). I also did the ice chips and am doing dose dense A/C. No scalp issues as yet. I got the Neulasta shot a day after chemo, had pain in my jaw and then my left shoulder, felt achy. How are you getting the Adriamycin? As a drip or a push? I get mine pushed, in about 10 minutes. Of course, I had other problems... nausea and severe headache the evening of chemo which landed me in ER for 6-7 hours. I was finally able to leave after 2 different anti-nausea drugs, several shots of morphine and some enhancer and Benedryl. I slept most of Friday until I got the Neulasta shot... actually had a nice small dinner but by Saturday, then the bone pain set in. I took ibuprophen and it helped, but it wasn't bad enough to make me go for the vicadin. I did have that achy feeling all day Saturday as well as bone pain. Sunday nausea set in (it was always there, just under medication taken before chemo and given during chemo as well as the ER stuff) and the compazine no longer worked. After a call to the onc I went on Zofran. Only problem there was diarrhea and a very sour stomach which I had to use Prilosec for 2-3 days to correct. About Sunday evening I felt better. Took that until Tuesday morning. Monday was better, I got out to get my grandson from school but was a little shaky. Tuesday felt better until Tuesday afternoon when I hit the wall. Not a big wall but enough to tell me to slow down a little. I had a real problem drinking liquids after the chemo. I did drink plenty before and had the ice chips during. Water tasted sweet, sickening sweet. I tried diet coke, fruit juice, V-8 juice and nothing helped. It actually took until Sunday when the dr recommended the 'shake' cure to get my taste buds a little back in order. Here it is a week later and I'm tired and doing things tires me out more than normal. I am eating and most foods sound or taste good, but I don't have the appetite I did before (that's a good thing) and my stomach has that slightly upset feeling, more like it needs food than doesn't want it. But, I'm trying not to put too much on my stomach either and my stomach is very grateful. <s> I'm hoping to get some liver and leafy greens into me this weekend to help with the tiredness... build up those red blood cells. I have bought (over the counter) Biotene, but have not used it. It's a mouthwash (and can get toothpaste too) that is suppose to help the mouth sores. Again, we are all so different in these treatments but it is interesting to hear from others on the same treatment to see how things are going. Anyone else on the same treatment that wants to give me a run down on the next treatment and what OTHER reactions I MIGHT have that I didn't now.... I would greatly appreciate it. Keep your chin up, Caren. We'll make it through these treatments. Barb Question about sores Hi Ladies, had my first chemo on April 24 and have developed mouth sores. Guest guest
Also a brand called Biotene and they have the tooth paste as well. I still use this to this day. This can be bought OTC. There is another brand I have heard of that helps also. Guest guest
I too had the A/C. The A was also a push. I took Emend just before treatment and never was nauseous. The C gave me a headache but wasn't severe enough to tend to. The day after chemo Neulasta shot didn't effect me as I know. I never felt good but didn't lay it onto the Neulasta. I lay everything on chemo and being 62. lol The funny taste is still with me. NOTHING tastes the same now. PLEASE tell me this too shall pass. I was almost addicted to reg. Coca Cola but that tastes horrid to me now, thank God. Water makes me ill. Can't stand the taste of it. Have to force it down. Carrot juice is awesome! Milk products sound so bad to me I can't even try them. I did the ice chips each and every time and only once got a couple of mouth sores which went away the next day. I feel I have been fortunate to not have been sick. Just indescribable low energy. Trisha -- Re: Question about sores Caren, I had my first treatment on Thursday, April 27th.
