Especially returning phone calls....I love that her voice mail says that all calls will be :

Teri,

I wrote a letter to Dr. Benyamin after it took about a month to get my appt. with the hospital for a test to check blood flow. He agreed at my appt. that it was too long. Yes, can call and do what she can to get things moving. I guess I may have to just keep pestering her about it so she'll want to get it over with too! Going to call her Mon. morning right when she gets there so hopefully she'll answer. It doesn't pay to sit at home expecting a phone call. I told Dr. Benyamin that if has too much to do already they need to get someone else, or hire, to get the job done so we're not sitting around for weeks wondering. Too bad she has to dampen things when he's so good!

Love,

Oh I couldn't agree with you more. I think that he really should consider getting another nurse to help. I know that the office is constantly busy and making good money....I know I have contributed plenty! I understand that is busy...but sometimes it just makes a person in pain feel worse having to wait for a simple return phone call. Best of luck to you in getting through to her first thing...I will be trying as well. I talked to the other docs office and they want to do my surgery Friday...but they too are waiting for a reply from about Dr. B's schedule. I actually told the other docs nurse about Dr. B saying that he would do it anytime....even if not on a Friday...so maybe I will get lucky enough to have it done before Friday. The only notice I need is however long it is that they don't want me eating or drinking anything. They could call me tonight at 8:00pm and tell me to be at the hospital at 6:00am tomorrow morning and I would be there.

""Since mine is a "first time" I won't have to contact the neurosurgeon will I? I figured that is something would be doing.

I guess I didn't realize that this was going to be your first surgery. Is this just the trial that you have to go through?

As far as the neurosurgeon goes, they do not have to be there for the trial surgery..but if it is the implant, yes they have to be present. Let me know.

When I had my first SCS put in last November, the anesthesiologist who is also my pain doc did the surgery (both the trial and the final implantation). I know that this is perfectly acceptable provided the doc has been taught the procedure. It wasn't until I had my second SCS that a neurosurgeon was involved....and then only because a more invasive approach was required (removing a section of the vertebra and implanting an entire plate of electrodes into the epidural space). As I understand it, there are various ways implanting an SCS....each calls on a different level of surgical/medical expertise.Teri Lehr wrote:
