Guest guest
Stories like this always make me boil. Probably cos they hit so close to home. However, I would challenge anyone to look at me and know when I had or when I hadn't taken a pain med. I look nor act no different with or without them. I have never been 'hopped up' on any meds. Too much coffee, sure! That is the ONLY time anyone would EVER see me 'hopped up'. The sad thing is that people can see us in our normal state and we look tired and we have brain fog, and they just assume we are 'drugged'. It is so unfair! I know fibro patients who have never taken any pain meds or any other meds for that matter, and people still think they're 'high' on something. It really sucks!! Being 'high' infers feeling good. That's the last thing we feel!! It is just all so nuts! I wish I had never confided in my daughter that I take pain meds, as now she blames everything wrong with me on them. I surely don't tell anyone else I take them, except for you all. Of course, when I stopped taking my bi-polar meds and would be in a 'manic' phase, I couldn't blame anyone for thinking I was on something. But, that's just 'normal' for the manic phase. It's like taking massive amounts of speed, at least that's kinda how it feels, and that's what most people would assume I had done. However, I have been back on my bi-polar meds for years now, and never have that going on. Peace and Love Caroline > I can't believe how many ignorant people are out there! Guest guest
As far as the never getting a " high " out of the meds, i know what you mean! I hate the doctors that think we are going to get ADDICTED to the pain meds, just because we need to take them!! In my opinion, in order to get ADDICTED to pain meds, you need to be able to feel that " high " . I never have, and i'm pretty darn sure that i never will! So, if I never feel a " high " from the pain meds and never REALLY feel anything from them except a bit more tired than usual (not even that much pain relief), then how in the world can i get ADDICTED to them? When I say ADDICTION, i am speaking of the term " psychological addiction " vs. " physical dependence " . Sure, I am physically dependent on them, because if I don't take the pain meds, my level 6-7-8 pain becomes level 7-8-9-10 pain... ya know what i mean?? Sorry, that's my rant about doctors!!
