I will never burn another fire, even after it is fixed. Will write more later. Just wanted ev1 to know. Hugs,
Guest guest
Oh , That does sound very scary. Glad all of you are fine and the fire didn't get into your house. Sounds like a great idea not to use the fireplace anymore before it can be cleaned. We don't use ours either. hugs, Debbie J > > We had a freakin' chimney fire this afternoon. Scared me to death. Guest guest
Thank God it was contained to just the chimney. We have some water damage behind the fireplace where insulation and sheet rock got wet, but hey it could have been much worse. Sorry to hear you had one too.. Did you have much damage? Guest guest
Actually, I was lucky. My neighbor saw the fire in the top of the chimney. We had only had the fire lit for about 15 or 20 minutes. The kids grabbed a bucket of water and dowsed the fire. She had already called the fire dept so they came through the house (I nearly died of embarrassment) and checked the attic. Everything was fine. They hauled out the logs and the fire grate and shot a fire extinguisher up the chimney. It was out when they got here but they were thorough and I really appreciated it. We have since closed off the fire place and haven't used it since. I can't afford a chimney sweep and I don't have a long enough extension on my chimney sweep rod to reach the top. ~~~~~ _____ From: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group [mailto:Fibromyalgia_Support_Group ] On Behalf Of Sent: Friday, December 14, 2007 8:26 AM To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Subject: RE: Chimney Fire Thank God it was contained to just the chimney. Guest guest
That sounds like my story. I had just lit the fire15 minutes prior. There was a guy who came to the door to tell us, as he saw it burning outside while picking his kids up from the school across the street. The FD came though my house too and I almost died of embarassment too. My house is under construction, as we are re-doing floors with tile, and it is cluttered due to that. Our fire started outside the chimney, due to a seam splitting, catching the wood around the chimney on fire. TG it was not worse. I doused the fire immediately and then ran outside and started spraying it with a hose till firemen arrived. got most of the cats safe in my bedroom and I did not know where the others she could not catch were. TG they were safe inside, hiding behind the washer/dryer. No smoke inside either, so no smoke damage. Now to get my nerves calmed down. wrote: Actually, I was lucky. Guest guest
, I'm glad your fire was contained before causing more damage and did not hurt you or your family. Take care. Guest guest
All I can say is keep it cleaned, like once a year, and make sure the outside structure is sound. Ours caught fire due to a seam splitting in the pipe and catching the outside wood part on fire. Never could figure out the wood part on the chimney. Please let me know more about this! I have a fireplace and worry about a chimney fire too! wrote: > We had a freakin' chimney fire this afternoon. Scared me to death.
