I can't even try to answer your question about fats, because I don't count

mine (nor do I count my carbs, proteins). But I at least wanted to acknowledge

that I read your question and will wait with interest to hear what the others

have to say!

You pose an interesting question.

Personally, I don't count fat servings per day. At one point I know I was

getting too little fat per day as my hair was turning brittle and falling out.

(Not in chunks, but it was very noticeable when brushing and combing.)

Most foods we eat have some fat in them. So I don't know how to differentiate

the fat servings. What I would guess would be the foods that only have fat and

no protein or carbs would be counted toward fat servings. (butter, oil, etc.)

????? I don't know.

Theoretically, you want your " diet " to include 30% fat or less daily. So I

guess one way of handling it would be to count fat/protein/carb grams to make

sure you're following dietary guidelines.

Anyone else who is actually " educated " in this that can help out????

I was not even aware there was a " recommended servings per day " . I

just try to use common sense. Most days, I do try to get in 1/2 oz.

of Almonds (the " good " fats) - but I limit the oils, the butter, that

sought of thing.... since I got my bagel consumption from every

morning to maybe on morning to maybe once every 2 to 3 weeks, I've

really cut back on butter/margerine consumption, I don't use

mayonaisse, and I only use rice vinegar on my salads (unless I'm at a

restaurant and then I try to use FF or lite dressings)... so I think

the only fats I get aside from the almonds are what's used in meal

preperation (margerine or oil in a recipe) and/or what's in other

foods (e.g. fat content of a cookie or a small dish of ice cream

(although I do use a lot of FF products for sweet treats anyhow) ..

I'm not sure if I'd count say a small dish of full-fat ice cream as a

fat serving - would I? ...I don't really count the fat sevings

explicitly, though... I've not seen any effect on weight loss

(although I have no basis of comparison)>

I've been journaling in Fitday as well as online and keeping track of my

fats that way. I find that I stick to about 15-25% of my diet as fats

and that keeps me at a good place. I don't go by servings, since

honestly I don't know what Wwers recommends. I just go with percentage.

I have found the Fitday software to be really neat! I decided I wanted

to monitor actual nutrition and caloric intake as well as points so I

went to www.fitday.com. Well turns out they have a program now that is

$20 and is absolutely awesome! I still want to do the points thing, but

I am liking finding out what the nutritional content of my day is.
