Guest guest
Thanks, Val. So you're suggesting that I drop from a total of 30 mcg per day to a total of 20 mcg per day. This means that Cytomel is significantly more potent than SR, right? -I had no idea there was that big a difference. I guess slow and easy is an especially good idea, considering that my ferritin is still only 25.7. I'm going to call the doc this week and ask for Venofer IV's. Then I should be able to increase Cytomel steadily, without repercussions. Guest guest
That is posibly giving you an increase as it is. SOME SRT3 is VERY weka maybe 50% absorbed or even less. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
Guest guest
Hi Peggy - I wanted you to know that I just switched from cellulose to the acidophilus filler last night. I, too, wasn't sure what I should do about the dosage due to the absorption issue problem. So, I thought I'd take it easy. I can't tell you how much BETTER I felt, right from the first pill. My stomach, symptoms, everything. I haven't felt hyper at all, so am thinking I may maintain my dosage of 35 mcg without dropping. I've actually felt much calmer, breathing easier, and no weird palps and less brain fog and I actually slept through the night instead of waking up once as I usually do. Of course, I'm not there yet, but the dramatic difference from switching from cellulose - and without hyper symptoms I was anticipating - has been great so far. Alixe > > Thanks, Val. Guest guest
Hi Alixe, Congratulations! That's fantastic. Just to clarify--you switched from cellulose to acidophilus filler, but is your T3 still SR? You mention an absorption issue, so I'm wondering why you had an absorption issue. Did you think it was because of the cellulose or some other reason? I just picked up my Cytomel prescription today and will start it tomorrow. Not sure what to expect, especially with my extremely low ferritin. But I'm glad I'm getting started. Guest guest
Hi Peggy, My T3 was not SR - always was the quick-release kind. So, before it was quick-release with cellulose, now it is quick-release with acidophilus. So, I'm dosing 5 times per day - at 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm, and before bed at 11pm. I definitely think it was the cellulose causing me the problem; I'd read about cellulose on the STTM website - go there to check out what is all says about cellulose. So, that's how I got a clue that if I was having issues I may want to consider it was the cellulose. And then Val had posted about needing something in the 200s as a potential maintenance dose when having cellulose as a filler (instead of the 75 - 150 mcg maintenance range!). STTM recommended asking for acidophilus as a filler, but I was still hesitant to try it due to all my food/chemical intolerances. It has made all the difference; I am finally feeling the medication whereas I just didn't feel right on the cellulose-based version. I don't seem to be having any negative reactions to the acidophilus. The cellulose version I was taking was simply pure T3, cellulose (not sure what type), and a gelatin cap. The acidophilus version I'm now taking is simply pure T3, acidophilus, and a gelatin cap. The pharmacy said they usually also add a dye to make sure the T3 and acidophilus are blended properly, but left it out for me and just blended longer. So, those are the only ingredients. When I think about how poorly many people have done with the Armour reformulation last year, experiencing a rapid return of their hypo symptoms...and the manufacturer apparently only changed the filler ratio. Not the active ingredients, and didn't add any additional fillers - just the ratio....I am amazed by the power the fillers have to affect one feels, regardless of the active medicine. Now, I don't have a ferritin issue currently - mine was 84. So, I realize from that this may be a barrier for your increases, so it would make sense you'd need to go more slowly and may want to go lower than you were when on the SR cellulose, just be sure. The good news, is that dosing several times per day can allow you to easily back off - or add more - if you feel you need or have to. I've got a bad B12 issue, so I also need to get that optimized next, and simultaneously to my T3 increases. Note - two weeks ago, when first starting on T3 and started dosing several times/day (and still being quite hypo) - I could feel my hypo symptoms start to return in between doses. For me, my head and body would feel heavy, sometimes heart palps, air " hunger " , and then I'd get nervous. One may mistake this for it being the T3. For me, I've actually found it was hypo - not hyper symptoms - returning. The T3 actually calms those things down for me! As I've gotten on more medicine, I don't notice ups and downs like that as long as I follow the increasing schedule Nick laid out - and then infinitely better on this filler! Let us know how you do!
