Guest guest
, I have IBS and have been helped greatly. I've only been on the diet for six months and feel like I've got my life back. You'll surely hear from others who have been around much longer than I have. Hang in there! Hannah At 08:14 PM 2/24/2009, you wrote: >Hi. I have suffered with gas and pain for years. Guest guest
I’ve found that peppermint oil capsules works quite well for gas and also spasms. You can freeze the capsules also so they don’t break apart too early in your system. Peppermint oil is an age-old remedy and from what I’ve read a recent study verifies that it has does indeed have properties that help the gastrointestinal system. Metagenics has capsule they call Intesol which is peppermint oil combined with lavender oil and chamomile flower extract. It has rice bran oil as one of the binders, which may or may not be SCD legal. Intesol is works very well for me (I keep it in the freezer) and the plain peppermint oil capsules (with gelatin, etc.) slightly less so, but still effective. n From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of wendyschmidt1 Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2009 11:15 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: IBS Hi. But it doesn't say anything about people with IBS. I'm really at my wits end. Guest guest
Hi I have IBS and the first day I started SCD the bloating and pain were gone. I've still been dealing with diarrhea (less frequently, less urgency) and low weight, but it has helped tremendously. I can't even remember how much pain I used to be in. I have had IBS most of my life, at least 10 years. I have been on SCD for just over 1 year now. The way I started this diet was to substitute rice, bread etc with bananas, applesauce, well cooked carrots and squash. I bought a crockpot and just put chicken in it in the morning with carrots, celery, onion and a bit of water. Then I have the chicken and broth it cooked in for dinner. Broth is definitely the most important thing to have lots of. Honestly having a crockpot has saved me. I slowly went from there to making the homemade yogurt, nut baked goods, and getting all organic fruits/veggies and pastured meats. Take your time with it, go slowly and be patient. If you have any specific questions feel free to contact me: scdkat@... Kat > > Hi. I have suffered with gas and pain for years. I have it every day. > I can't eat very much. Guest guest
Thanks. Your email was very helpful. It made me feel that this is a good way to go without getting to drastic to fast. Crockpot is a good idea. Did you also buy a yogurt maker? Guest guest
I did buy a Yogourmet yogurt maker a few months into the diet. I was off dairy for over 2 years and was terrified to try it so I didn't start the diet with it. I wish I had the yogurt at the beginning though, it was really helpful, tasty and filling. I just went to my local health food store and got them to order the yogurt maker for me. Some specialty kitchen shops have them too, and I found another one at a garage sale in the summer. I started with goat's milk but then moved to cow's milk 1/2 and 1/2 cream because it's just delicious. Good luck starting, don't be afraid to ask questions on here, everyone's been through it. Guest guest
I was reading about the yogourmet maker but it was confusing. Some people seemed to be saying that it was difficult to do it for 24 hours without destroying the good bacteria. Others said the starter wasn't the right kind for this diet. This is the kind of stuff I worry about. If I invest in it I want it to be the right kind and not something that I regret buying. Have you had any problems with any of this? Thanks .From: scdkat To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thursday, February 26, 2009 8:11:22 PMSubject: Re: IBS I did buy a Yogourmet yogurt maker a few months into the diet. Guest guest
Hi , I thought I replied to this but don't see my post so here we go again: I started with my Yogourmet just not caring if it was overheating. I did fine with the yogurt. Once I did measure the temperature it was a little high, 113 C so I bought a dimmer switch at Walmart and now keep it around 105. The Yogourmet I would say is the best still to get, because it fits 2 litres at a time. I also get the Yogourmet starter and have never had a problem with it. It is a legal starter, with no Bifidum, so I'm not sure why people would think it's not right for the diet. Kat > > > > > > Hi. I have suffered with gas and pain for years.
