I'll give you three different instances of when I have

lost my hair..

1st time.. I quit taking the pill. That was the

worst. I had bald spots everywhere and was seriously

contemplating buying a wig. I finally went to the

dermatologist where I got over 100 injections in the

scalp over a couple of weeks. All the hair grew

back.. even better and less grayer than before :)

2nd time.. pregnancy!! Every time I have a kid, I

lose hair. Not as bad as the first time, but it was

still gone.

3rd time.. after I found out my kids had cf. I get

some pretty bad stress attacks going now and then,

specially when the hubby doesnt feel like helping with

the little ones. Serious amounts of stress can make

your hair fall out (or make you pull it out :))

If any of these three pertain to you... then it may

help you understand why. I wouldn't do the injection

thing tho unless you are losing tons.

My last daughter is now 7 months and I am still losing

hair, so don't feel like you're alone on this one.

Tell ya what, tho... I'm now a little more grateful

when I find a gray one ! :)

Bath & Body Works have a wonderful lotion called " Body Cream. " It comes in a

large variety of scents (my favorite is coconut - LOL, I know some on the

list will hate that one!). It is very rich dense moisturizer. I use it on

my legs after I shave and they are moist and smooth all day. It costs around

$11.00 for a good sized tube. I love it, so I consider it worth the splurge!

I've been using the products from www.uniquelyemu.com . My favorites for

moisturizing the skin are " Therapeutic Moisturizing Lotion " and " Pure Emu Oil " .

For a body wash and cleanser I use " Energizing Face & Body Cleanser " and for

shampoo and conditioner I use their " Revitalizing Shampoo & Conditioner " .

Their shampoo and conditioner feels way better than , Sebastian,

and those other overpriced salon products. I just got the " Facial Moisture

Cream " and only have been using it for about 3 days.

How much protein supps & dry E are you getting in? I still get dry skin, but I

guess I shouldn't be too surprised since I always had it. Finally got those

other levels about right, so I'm actually better off than I was in my

fat-avoidance days.

For stubborn dry skin, I've found Vaseline Petroleum Jelly Cream-Creamy

Formula to be the most effective not to mention least expensive treatment!

It has vitamin E and is fragrance free. It's thick but absorbs nicely. It

leaves your skin soft all day long.

When my daughter was small she had the worst dry skin. Her little hands

would chap and then crack and bleed. No lotion seemed to be able to do the

job so I took her to the doc. At that he he recommended I wash her well,

cover her in Crisco (the solid stuff) and then put socks on her hands and

leave it that way as long as possible up to 2 days and at least 12 hours.

When I took it off, her hands were totally healed and as soft and supple as

lamb skin. Sometime after that I saw a mysterious " C " Cream in the pharmacy

and when I asked about it they told me many people wouldn try it, they

wanted a RX so they transferred the Crisco into jars and labeled it.

You might want to try it.

Hi and Bil, I did email Bill privately. You

are close with the numbers. I lost 218lbs, regained 64

back to 306 and relost down to my low of 189 lbs.

Diet is DIE with a T. I changed the way I live my

life. The way I eat has become habit just like my

compulsive eating and grazing was. That is no longer

my way of living. I am grateful for all the help this

list has given and my other lists.

Thanks for remembering me .

le,

It might just be him. After all he is a minister, and you did sleep

with him. Even if he *REALLY* *REALLY* like you he would have to

deal with the moral issue of having sex before marriage. He might be

more ashamed of himself for not resisting temptation. He could also

be thinking that you wouldn't make a good mate because you slept with

The more I read of other peoples problems the more I believe I have had this all my life and until recently it has just layed dormant.I have, as you all probably know, had problems with my esophagus for years. Anything, mainly meats and chicken, could get stuck. It could take a few minutes and in some cases what seemed like hours to get it down, or up. As a child tying my shoes especially on cold mornings, would make my palms turn red and slightly swell. It was never really bad so I never bothered to tell mama. Then there was a full body break out that I had, supposedly from tide. I'm beginning to doubt the tide had anything to do with it. If I have had it all my life then I doubt the significance of the wisdom teeth, though I will have them removed anyway.Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, ttyl,Ty

- (no subject)Hi Ty, I am trying to send you some of the old e-mail I had sent to thegroup., When my bad root canal was pulled no infection showed up either, nothing but the cavity in the side of the tooth and some bone loss in thejaw. I did however request the antibiotic Clindamycin and took 1000mg adayfor 10 days. I would say it took at least 3 months to see the most dramaticimprovement in my hives and they have been steadly getting better, I am offall anithistamines as of yesterday and still remain hive free. I am stilltaking the Zantac 75mg 2 x aday and will stop that shortly.Hi Rita & Everyone, Before my CU started I had the same problem with myesophagus. When I swallowed pork, chicken or some other foods (can'tremember what) they would get caught in my esophagus and I would have todrink water to make it go down. It did not happen all the time and it hurt.I never had a breathing problem. It didn't dawn on me my esophagus wasswollen. Sometimes the water would not make the food go down and would backflow into my mouth. Other times I would get a severe pain in the center ofmy chest (between the breasts) that radiated into my jaw ( I was screened byCardiologist & all was o.k.). Sometimes I hadn't eaten anything or in themiddle of the night the pain would start. When I got that pain I felt likeI had to burp and couldn't. When I drank some carbonated Sprite it made meburp & the pain went away. It happened a lot. I had gone to agastroentologist who did an endoscopy and then a swallowing test. He did notfind anything and said my esophageal muscles were so strong I could crackwalnuts with them (normal). The next day after the test I had the sameproblem. That's when I assumed my esophagus was swelling or having spasms.I was having a lot of GERD (Gastresophageaar Reflus Disease) and thought maybe the acid reflux was causing the problem. All this occured a long timebefore the CU & DCU started. I was on Prilosec which didn't help at all andlater on found I was allergic to it. Then I had a CAT Scan & that night Ibroke out in giant hives. I thought the hives were from the contrast used inth CAT Scan. I am not allergic to Iodine & can eat shellfish with no problem. Then after having the CU and angioedema for about 18 months I found thisgroup (I think it was that long) And thanks to this most informative group Ichecked out a seven year old root canal tooth. It was bad & I had itextracted on 5/17/01. It's been a slow recovery but I am making progress. Ialso found I had H Pylori and was treated for that. (bacteria in stomach thatcan cause an ulcer) I am trying to find a lab that does the Urea Breath testto retest for the H Pylori & can't find one. (update for Ty- I found one & ambeing retested this Monday) I took the medical tx. for the H pylori and thenfollowed it up with the Herbal tx/Mastic Gum capsules. The Mastic Gum issuppose to be more effective than the medical treatment. All in all, I amdoing great now. I haven't had a hive in a long time but still have littlepressure marks if I wear a belt & at times some pressure reddened areas underthe base of the bra but no itching there. I do get some skin itching on myback and feet but no hives and no angioedema. I am eating all foods nowexcept for bought spegetti sauce (update/I ate spegetti with meat saucethis past Monday and no hives or swelling occured.)(before was sensative tomany foods, was RAST tested & skin tested & all was negative) I havedecreased all my meds to just Allegra 60mg and Zantac at 8 PM. Tomorrow I amstopping the Allegra & see how I do. (update/ Have stopped all antihistaminesnow & no hives or angioedema) I have decided I will wait for 1 year beforeI start the procedure for a dental implant. I don't want to disturb anythingat the site. Ty, I hope this information will help. Right after my extraction I hada lot of swelling but it got better & better. You still have 2 teeth left toget out so don't stop now. I know you are suffering from the 2 extractionsbut please finish the job as those 2 remaining teeth will give you nothingbut trouble anyway. Do you have an appointment for there extraction? Atleast with these 4 teeth out should you continue to hive and swell you willknow it was not from the teeth and can look for something else. Just rememberit took 7 years for my hives to surface and I thought it was something elsethat caused it and it turned out to be a bad root canal tooth. Just hang inthere big guy & my family is praying for you. Seems like you are a member ofour family. I keep everyone updated as to your progress at our supper table. Hope today you are feeling much better. Fondly, Knorr, R.N.New JerseyCara, I just want to say, I went through all the tests you suggested and theGastro Doc. didn't find anything. On that day I was not having a problemswallowing. The next day I had the problem. The next week I had theswallowing test done and it was completely normal. Many times I stood overthe sink trying to bring up food that just would not go down. I even mademyself chew meat excessively so it wouldn't get caught in my esophagus Ihave not had the problem since having the bad root canal tooth out. This hivything brings out weird thing in normal people that are not in the medicalbooks.. As you suggested, it is good to have it checked to eliminate anypathology. Love, Knorr, NJ

I chalk it up to my perverse psyche. I was not a big sweets eater pre-op; I

was much more into bread and fat. But now, the only food which is really bad

for my weight loss, is sugar. So of course, that's the one food I crave.

Part of the " you always want what you can't have " syndrome. If for some

reason I couldn't eat dairy, I am absolutely sure that would become my

craving du jour. I guess I could seek some therapy to help with this, but

heck, it's more fun to complain about it!

Not enough protein. Sorry. There's never enough for us. Sweet cravings is

the #1 sign. It doesn't have to be in the toilet low, just too low for YOU.

If' it's below pre-op levels, that's all it takes.

Mine is as predictable as it can be. My levels reached pre-op this summer

when I beefed for plastic redo and sure enough, appetite dropped off, weight

dropped with it. Darn.

Thanks Robin! Her liver function has always been normal. We did have an

electrolyte panel and a med level taken yesterday. Her 'lytes are fine and

her phenobarb level was 27. I was told this in the middle of the normal

range. I have other thoughts, though. Her level has been taken quite a bit

since Nov, when her seizure intensified. Her trough level was always in the

mid to upper 30's. So, maybe the doc was right and she is growing out of her

dose. She is doing fine now, just real tired from all of the seizures the

other day.

I was wondering which drug you started with and what order and why the other

drugs were added. Was something done a month ago that you think has helped

the seizure control? Thanks for your help! I hope you have been feeling

better!

Sharon,

Thank you for sharing. We will probably travel to Atlanta someday. but we are in the holding pattern now with Three other kids not showing any major signs. Although, GI issues continue with our oldest. I am so glad you went and had a possitive experience. I do not recall what mito dx Clay received at 2 1/2 Can you remind me. Has he had a DNA analysis? Just curious.

Take care,

What was his cocktail and what are the changes?

It was very informative and all went well. We stayed at the McDOnald house which was wonderful and everything went smooth. The appointment with Shoffner was so good. He is such a nice man. SO thoughtful, thorogh and nice with a great bedside manner. Very impressive. He spent 2 hours with us. Asking questions, exaiming clayton. It was so clear that he had extensively reviwed the 7 inch voulume of medical records that I sent him.He agreed with the the testing done and that Clay did have a mito disorder. He is not sure of the inheritance pattern and will try to find that from the biopsy. He did want a bunch of test undertaken when we got home on Clay and will send the list to us and our doctor. He also was concerned about Jakes CPK being so high and said he needs to see a neuro immediately for testing, including an MRI and EEG.In addition to all the usuall tests done, muscle biopsy, blood, urine, limbar puncture he tested Clayton for a chromosome 17 disorder (Velocardio facial or dis) as this was noted in many of clays records but never followed up on. This would be a diagnosis in addition to the mito one. The thinks 17 as others have due to his high arched palet, severe reflux (now corrected) and extra aortic arch. All and all it was very informative. I also was happy that he agreed with us holding out on the biopsy for clayton until recently. Clayton was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago by Dr. . We never pursued a biopsy after the diagnosis as it would not have changed the treatment or anything at that time. However. now that Jake and cole are showing symptoms we decided to pursue it. He also acutally added that there may be some other things we can add to claytons cocktail and also diet may help him (like removing fats - whole protiens) - which we did before. Thanks for all the support guys.Love,SharonPlease contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.

Cut the squash in half length wise, lay face down is shallow glass baking

dish, pour in 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water, cover with plastic wrap and microwave on

high for about 10 min. Allow to cool a bit so you can handle it and just take

a fork and start raking the pulp out and it will amaze you how it comes out

in shreds like spaghetti. Then prepare your ground turkey with sauce and

enjoy. Hope this helps.

When you can tolerate beans and cook them to the specifications to SCD, is there

anything

you can use the water in? I cooked some beans with salt pork and they turned

out fantastic.

The bean water/brother was also tasty and I would like to use it in a soup as a

base. Has

anyone ever tried this? Is it recommended or even legal due to what is in the

water from the

beans?

Thanks,
