Drink a lot of fluid. One reason for jetlag is dehydration.

Also you might consider bringing a sleeping pill along with you

if you can't sleep on planes.

Used to be able to sleep on planes scary well - but not anymore.

Thanks Mara..

Interesting as I used to sleep really well on planes too.

Sleeping pills have the opposite effect on me and make me hyper.

Interesting as I used to sleep really well on planes too.

for jetlag and tells how to do it

oh i take 2 every a.m. and p.m. and it doesn't make me tired - but

health food store told me talk my 2 calc/mag pills with d3 before bed

as it relaxes you??? i think that's true - or i'm tired then

anyway...???

Hi Eileen,

If I am not mistaken L-Tryp converts into 5HTP and that converts into

Melatonin. That is why all of these things are used for sleep aids.

Melatonin is the cheapest and L-Tryp is the most expensive of the bunch.

L-Tryp is what is inside of heated milk hence the home-remedy of

giving kids a warm glass of milk before bed to make them sleepy.

There are different types of Mag but yeah- it's used a lot as a muscle

relaxant. Cal/Mag combo helps absorption all depending on the types

you're using etc.

Never knew D3 was a " relaxant " have to look into that at some point.

Which D3 do you take? Is it in a capsule?

Hi Debbie,

I am not sure, but some people do better with one than another.

When I took 5-HTP I had more vivid dreams and didn’t feel well rested. For

a while I slept great with just mag citrate. Now I have high cortisol at night

and that alone doesn’t do it. I added melatonin but that did not help

either. So now I take a very high dose of L-Tryptophan and sleep great although

it’s a precursor to 5-HTP. Other people have complained about that, too,

with 5-HTP.

Hey Debbie T,

It is one of those highly individual things once again.

There are many arguments on all sides of this thing.

Most practitioners I have been too think Melatonin for a couple of

weeks in a row is ok. Others feel it is great long term. I have read

data that suggests otherwise- so I personally would only use it short

term. Also, in the past I found Melatonin stopped working for me

after a couple of days, weeks etc.

Some docs love 5HTP (including mine) but I have read that long term

usage of 5HTP screws with Seratonin levels.

It helps someone fall asleep not stay asleep in my experience.

5HTP can also cause nausea.

L-Tryp is interesting as there is data out there about it being very

good for CD and bowel disease (need to do some hunting on google

scholar) and the upside of it is it helps people sleep. But due to it

being an amino acid I think people need to proceed with caution as it

is one of those things that can upset the gut.

There are combos that people do with the Melatonin like L-Theanine or

natural relaxants that help sleep as well.

So once again it's looking at many supplements which overwhelms me as

I cannot take many supplements.

Some say there are key times of the day to take them and the combo

together helps one fall asleep and stay asleep.

I believe you're right but it may mello me a smidge but i wouldn't

say sleep - thats' just me - i don't know if it's the d3 which I take

as a lil pill freeda brand might be the 2 calc /mag that do it????
