RE: Calorie Counting - Almond Flour

Hi Sylvia

Looks like we might have to exercise our math skills and a lot of nutritional

detective work.

I looked at several different websites for the composition of almonds (both for

ground and whole almonds). The calorie content per cup varied from 549 to 823

per cup (that huge range baffles me!) Taking the middle road, I would estimate

my basic muffin or bread recipe (using between 2.5 and 3 cups of AF) is

approximately 2000 calories.

Then, I factored in the other ingredients - egg, yoghurt, butter, fruit (my

current favourite muffin is made with butter, squash, chopped walnuts and

raisins). Bear in mind that dripped yoghurt is more concentrated, and

half-and-half would be higher in calories than whole milk. Check out the

information on the original package of dairy, and work it out. At best, each

separate ingredient is going be a VERY rough guess <g>.

I would hazard a guess that my once-a-day muffin might be close to 350 calories.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has gone through this process.

One final note .. just as calorie counting is not an exact science, the same

goes for calorie expenditure. Therefore, the days that you are more active,

your calorie intake needs to increase to compensate. It's really a balance

between " calories-IN " and " calories-OUT " .
