Guest guest
Boy can I relate. I think I was three months post op or there abouts. I figured it had been many months since I'd seen my PCP so I'd better report in and tell her how great things were going, how well I was feeling, all great stuff right? My PCP is ruthless. I guess my urine appeared to concentrated (graphic I know). So she asked about my water. I told her I was easily getting 64oz in a day and probably more like 80. She said I needed more. More? Like 80- 100oz. Uh, hmm, okei dokei. Then she asks the fun about how everything else is going in the bathroom department. Well it was disrupted for a few days but everything has been pretty good. Good, Good, you need to make sure you get enough fiber in your diet and vegitables, fruits, etc. Hmm again, eating protein over here, full all the time. Hello? She then jumped on my blood sugar. It was down from 123 to 105. That's still too high she tells me. You need to be 65-99. I complained that I know for a fact that the standard used to be something like 100-112 or 120 so the folks that changed the requirements are to blame. What it boiled down to is my PCP just wants my diet to be balanced (well except for maybe the massive liquids). Now if you're like me you'd be thinking, " Hey check out where I was 8 months ago, eating garbage, no exercise, etc. I'm doing really well! " That's very true and I need to take credit for my accomplishments, celebrate, thank my family for helping me and all that. But my PCP, surgeon, dietician always seem to want more. I really thank them for that too actually. I'm finding that what used to be a never ending ability to screw my body up with bad food, massive quantities of food, less and less exercise is now turning into a never ending need to improve my diet, exercise levels and other habits. I spent this weekend with my son at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. We had hours to talk. I spent some of the time talking about diet and exercise and saying you don't have to be perfect but that it's all about creating good habits. Habits are the hardest to set and hardest to break. They're very important. Imagine someone my size giving weight/exercise advice? Who do I think I am? Fortunately my son appears to value my opinion and thoughts (he's young, give him a few years). Back to you though . Keep trying to get some vegetables in where you can. I know that it's one of those things you can almost talk yourself out of. Vegetables are sort of " free foods " and here you are trying hard to get in the protein. You don't want ANY other foods, free especially. For me I try to eat a few, very few, vegetables every meal. I still have the old mind set creep in once in a while where when a doctor tells me I need to eat something or do something that it has to be a huge extreme or in excess. Think about it, I'm used to eating massive amounts of things so if someone says you need even more of something I think I have to eat full plates of the stuff. That's a mindset I have to still work on. You still have to do your best with whatever seemingly crazy diet requirements your doctors give you. Just have confidence that you now have the ability to excel beyond what you think you can. You can do it ! Keep adjusting and learning about your new diet and abilities. Broccoli and green beans are my favorite vegetables but I'll eat almost any vegetables now. I still hate lima beans. Guest guest
I still have problems with this at 7 months out. I try to make things with protein and vegatables together. Or like an eggwhite omlette with brocoli (cant even eat half) Or a very small salad with chicken in. I also have Benefiber in pill and powder form if I need more fiber. The powder disolves in water very well and doesnt have any taste at all. Marilynn 290/182.9 > > I talked w/ the nutritionist today & she is encouraging me to get some > veggies into my diet. Guest guest
Mike, Your PCP sounds like mine, and frankly, she sounds like sour grapes. The amount of water you are taking in is phenominal! I believe the PCPs take issue with them not being able to take responsibility for our new found health, energy and lifestyles because they didn't come as a direct result of their direction. My PCP is so unsupportive that she is going to get the axe. She actually told me when I started this that I just needed to stop making excuses, excercise, push away from the table and quit eating so much,,,ha! From a woman who had to be at least 40 lbs. overweight, stimulating advice. Deb --- Mike wrote: > Boy can I relate. Guest guest
That may be what I have to do!!! Just eat a few bites. And go from there! Today at lunch I could barely do 2oz of chicken! Guest guest
Well..I did add a few bites of green beans in tonight. I don't really like them; but I ate them. I think that's part of my problem...I'm not a big veggie eater. I'm trying to change my mindset on them tho. I figure a few green beans is a good start. LOL And the nutritionist's main reason for pushing me to eat veggies is to help in the bathroom dept. I'm sort of lacking in that dept. W 380/327/160 Mike wrote: > Boy can I relate. Guest guest
Hey!! I haven't had my surgery yet, but a couple of years ago I went on a diet through my doctor, and he warned me about eating green beans as my only vegetable. He said the beans you buy in the supermarket had a wax like substance that would cause you to be constipated. I just thought I might throw that out at you!! By the way, I go tomorrow to set up my sugery date! YYYAAAHHHHOOOO > > Boy can I relate. Guest guest
Thanks!! It does go for the canned ones. Those are the kind they want you to stay away from. You might want to double check with someone, but that is why my doc. said. > > > > Boy can I relate. Guest guest
I've had a hard time getting the veggies in also... I've started drinking the small cans of V-8 juice (5oz, i think). One can is equal to one serving of veggies. This one serving has to be better than nothing at all, and it seems to go down easier than trying to eat my veggies after the protein.... > > Boy can I relate. Guest guest
It used to work for me that way! LOL! I've seen a bit of improvement in taking the fiber tablets.
