Guest guest
Thanks, Jing. I hope yours is even better. Jing son wrote: , I hope to make the same report in 9 months! I had bi-monthly appointment (this one is for my annual), and had a creatinine of......................... drumroll please............. 1.3! Yeah! I am so excited. And to top it all off, my magnesium was 1.8! As the coordinator I spoke to said, " Your labs are perfect. Right down the middle. " Double Yeah! Due to the leap year, my kidne-versary will be 366 days from transplant, so our whole family will be celebrating this Thursday, 12/9, the actual tx day. I cannot believe it has been a whole year (almost). I hope for two things in the coming year: those in need of kidneys get them ASAP; and those who are stable remain that way. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Lynne: Thank You. Your e-mails last year were an inspiration to me. I remember reading about your boys getting ready for Christmas right before I went in. That was very calming. Lynne wrote: Way to go ! We celebrated Brent's transplant anniversary on Thanksgiving Day. His results were almost the same. He entered the hospital with a creatinine of 9.1 and left with 1.3. At one year he was still 1.3. Soooooo happy things are going well. Guest guest
Well said ! Marcia Cohen wrote: Bart, I had a living related donor, my sister. She was a 1 of 6 match, and yes, you are right: a 0 of 6 living match is better than a 6 of 6 cadavaric match (slightly). There have been cases of people having a tough time dealing with the fact that their organ came from a person who died so that they could live, or waiting, hoping that they get the call from the transplant team because an organ was found. But the way I see it, you personally had no hand in their death (or I hope they would not give you the organ!) and this person or their family has decided that they would like to " do the right thing " , and give someone else the chance to experience life. I think it turns tragedy to good. I think you are only wishing someone to die if you name them personally. Death is a natural part of life, and although it can be tragic and unexpected in many cases, there is nothing we can do to stop it. I carry a donor card, not that they want all my pieces, but I do having functional organs and tissues that could be used for another person. When I think about my meds, well, I guess they'll be taking the same drugs I am (or similar), so I was told that's not an issue. I think it's best that if something does happen, that a trained medical person can make the decision whether or not to recycle me. " Barton K. Hawkins " wrote: , Was yours a living donor or cadaver situation? Living donor kidneys, depending on your age, can last literally a lifetime....25 years +. Cadaver kidneys tend to last on the order of 10 years or so, though many do not survive long at all, and some seem to last much, much longer. However, what I can state is my own nephs are highly in favor of a living donor transplant...even though I am unrelated to anyone now living (I have 11 brothers and sisters....but, as they say, I was born on the wrong side of the blanket). Interestingly, they tell me that even a completely " poor, " match from a live donor is " better, " than a 6-point match from a deceased one. In large measure, something to do with ischemia (that is, lack of blood flow through the organ as its being flown about, waiting in OR, and so on). Also, the nephs are highly in favor of my being proactively transplanted...before I require dialysis. Quite frankly, and I don't know how to broach this here, but I am having severe moral issues surrounding, effectively, praying for someone unknown to me to die so that I might live. Does anyone else here feel this? Am I just off base here? It seems hard to me. Bart Re: My First Annual " Inspection " Thanks, Pierre. I know that the long haul looks good, but I was hoping I could find some stats on the web. Do you know any sites? PS - when is the donations link coming back? Pierre Lachaine wrote: Wow, that's pretty good news for you ! I still find it hard to believe it's been a year already since your transplant. It's amazing how time flies. If your new kidney is working that well after a year, you're in pretty good shape for the long haul.
