Guest guest
Well, let me see. I know what you mean. I have had to call in for the fibro beast before too. I really just told my boss the truth most of the time. She knows I have FM but I don't think she wants to talk about it or offer much understanding. However, she has never complained. I have used the stomach flu and stuff too. Truthfully it is almost always fibro that gets me though. Debra V. alannakitty wrote: The alarm went off this morning and I JUST couldn't do it. So I called out sick to work--stomach flu. Which is slightly true b/c I have been having IBS symptoms for the past 3 weeks. I just needed some more sleep. I'm up now but not feeling good. Kind of like I have a head cold. It is deary here in B-more, MD. Hard to get motivated. Anyway, just curious what other excuses we have all used over time. I mean, it isn't like I can call in to work and say... sorry, I need a few more hours of sleep b/c I have Fibro? Boy it would be great if I could though. --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
When it happens to me I simply call in and tell them I just can't make it. I have provided my boss with some information of fibro in hopes that it helps when I call in. I just try to be honest. I hope I don't loose my job over it but the bottom line is that sometimes I just cannot go. It happens for work, church, grandbaby's birthday....my fibro does not go by my calendar. I just offer no excuses or apologiez for my fibro. It just is. --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Guest guest
I used everything from flu to diarrhea to migraine… all true at one time or another. Keep in mind, however, that I was let go after working there for 10 years because I just missed too much work. They were aware of my fibro, but when it came to work, it just didn’t matter. Guest guest
If you are not out for more then three days it is illegal for them to require a reason for you being out. After three days they can request a D.r note prior to your return to work. Also, if you have more the 15 people you can ask for Reasonable Accommodations and protection under the ADA of 2003. You need to tell you employer that you have a condition that may require a change in hours. You and Your dr must proove: The major life activities include, but are not limited to: seeing, hearing, learning, breathing, walking, working and caring for oneself. You can also appl,y for FMLA which will give you 12 weeks of unpaind leave. It does not need to be taking in groups of days. I hope that helps. I have done a lot of research of the ADA and accomodations, I'm not a lawyer, but if you have questions let me know.
Guest guest
Keep in mind that the ADA and FMLA do not apply to companies that have less than 10 employees. I found out the hard way and was friendly with a lot of lawyers and they assured me they could just let me go. I was not fulfilling my end of the “work bargain”. Guest guest
Actually the ADA is only required for businesses with 15 or more employees and FMLA is only required for businesses with more than 50 employees. lisa n.

And almost everytime, it has been cause I had not had enough sleep. One those days, I would not have been able to take a shower, get dressed and then drive to her office. So we talked about the problem(s) I have had with insomina since I was a young child. I do remember still being a sleep on Christmas eve, 1952! I know you must wonder how I can be so specific but it was the winter my youngest sister was born. Now I don't know if I really had insomina but we were have very, very bad winds, my father was not at home and because of where my bed was, I had a very good view of the Christmas tree and I did discover that Mother was really Santa Claus! But during my later years in grade school, high school and even college, I would have very difficult times falling asleep, sometimes while still living at home, I would still be awake when my mother's alarm would go off for her to get up and fix my father's breakfast and lunch. And during those years and even into my 30's, I had racing thoughts that just would not stop! So the issue here is how do I manage to get enough sleep the Sunday night before I have an appointment with her? Since my appointments with her are basically the only ones I have to get to, I think I have to really take a sleeping pill on the Sunday night before an appointment. But we also talked about the fact that I have had two sleep studies done in recent years --- first one I NEVER really fell a sleep, the second time I reached RIM sleep for only about 5 minutes so they still could not come up with a solution. But my technique is to take a book to bed and read until I fall asleep, I try never to see the clock because that will cause a panic and cause me to have more problems. So while I don't have to call work, I do have to call my psychologist from time to time. But I also think that last two weeks, my sleep was messed up because of my aunt's illness and then knowing we were waiting for the phone call that she had taken that last breath and went home to the comfort of Grandma's arms! But years ago during one of my very first " real " jobs as the manager of the department said, I was honestly sick twice but also called in sick one time when I had actually left town for the weekend. And so when I got back from Grandma's funeral, I had bronchitis --- which anyone could have heard, but they called and fired me while I was so sick I almost had to crawl to the phone. Yes, it is hard for non fibro people to understand us --- I am not so sure that my cousins understand --- especially not Mr Athlete himself, the others may because one cousin has crippling arthritis but she some how can't stay at home!! And her older brother sent me an email last week in which he had read the time I had written one to him and he said " You are going to kill yourself if you don't get some sleep! " We did have that thought on our mind then anyway --- he told me when he called to say our aunt had died and told him we had decided because of the weather that was supposed to be nasty between home and here (this is NOT home). He said " No, we don't want to go to three funerals! " I know that was not necessarily the answer to Debra's question, but it is how I have to deal with appointments. Which are the closest situations to work that I have! Hope all of you who have had a bad day today, tomorrow will bring you some bit less pain. Guest guest
When I was working, I called in sick all the time. My employers often commented on how often I was sick, but back then I didn't know why I had so many 'flu' like bugs. alannakitty wrote: > The alarm went off this morning and I JUST couldn't do it. Guest guest
I've used the " needs more sleep " excuse for calling the school regarding my teenage daughter's absence. But never for myself. I would always say I had a bug, ached all over, and so tired. Of course, this is before I knew those symptoms were all part of the FM monster. I could never really understand why 1-2 days a month I just had to give up and crash. Until the point when my body and mind said " no more " and I had to stop all together. Well, I'm rambling.
