, it seems pretty obvious that your new boss has it in for you. There is

no reason why, most likely, but some people just get on power trips when they

are given a little authority. I would suggest you get a copy of your review, if

you don't have one already. Then, see if you can also get hold of copies of the

comment cards. Oh, while you're getting copies, ask for a copy of the letter

your last doctor wrote saying you need special accommodations. Seeing this can

help your new doctor reach the same conclusion. Ask one of the other supervisors

to get these things for you. When you see your new doctor about getting the

'work ability form' filled out, also ask him about getting a handicapped

license. Don't forget to have him document the fact that you are in danger of

falling if you have to do all the side work, which really isn't the job of

cashiers in most places anyway. I've cashiered before and we weren't allowed to

leave our registers without locking them up, and making sure that it was slow

enough to be without that register open. It took permission from a supervisor to

do that. The accusation about you missing too much work is easily refuted. You

must be able to have copies of your schedules and time cards so that you can

prove you have only missed one day. You need to get all of these things

together, so if that new person decides to fire you, you can get unemployment,

or even sue for wrongful dismissal. It is really sad that these 'big box' stores

get away with so much so easily, but I would fight it tooth and nail. It also

could be worth your time to type up a statement listing all of the things you

have wrong with you, and give a copy of this to your new boss. She obviously is

acting like you haven't told her these things already, so give her a copy and

ask her to sign a paper acknowledging that she has received it. She will not be

able to say that she had not been informed of your disabilities. Double check

the disability accomodation rules at Target, they should be in your employee's

handbook, or ask HR for a copy. They have to have them, all businesses that size

have to, it's the law.

Remember, this woman is just on a power trip. It has nothing to do with you, and

everything to do with her ego. Begin now gathering all your information, so if

worse should come to worse you have all your ducks in a row. If she does

something illegal, she is the one who could end up being fired. Wouldn't that be

great? I know this will take some time, and a bit of energy you might not feel

you have, but it is really important. If anyone should balk at supplying you

with the paperwork, etc. it is the law that you are entitled to it. Let them

know that YOU know this.

Actually, you should apply for management trainee. In the end the work is much

less physical. You are certainly intelligent enough to qualify. At any rate,

don't give up hope. Take it one step at a time. Collect your ammunition. With a

copy of the letter from your last doctor, you should have little trouble getting

the new one to fill out the form, and hopefully the paperwork for a handicapped

license. There are MANY laws to protect the handicapped. One more thing, your

old doctor HAS to give you copies of your medical records if you request them.

They ARE allowed to charge for them, but they are YOUR records, and your new

doctor will need them. Your old doctor's office could also fax them to the new

doctor.

Hope you begin feeling a bit more cheerful soon. I'm sorry all this stuff seems

to happen to you. I've been through it all before too. I finally learned how to

fight back. BTW... If they put you on the main aisles next time, talk to one of

the other supervisors and explain that you just can't do it for a whole shift.

Also remind them you need to have your breaks on time.

Peace and Love

Caroline

Thanks for all of your replies regarding whether or not target would let me keep

my chair at the cash register. They have DECIDED that they will ALLOW me to

CONTINUE to use the chair as a reasonable accommodation, but in order to do so,

I have to take a " WORK ABILITY " form to my doc and have the doc fill it out, and

then I have to return it to the HR. Here's the FUN part... I just fired my

doctor last Monday. Tomorrow (Monday), I'm calling at 7:45am to try to get an

appt. with my new doc (who i've never met, it will just be an appt. with A doc

at the Wishard Primary Care Center). If I can't get an appt. tomorrow, then I

will be told to go to the Wishard ER/Urgent Care Center and see a doc there,

because I am almost out of ALL of my prescriptions. So, how in the world, will a

doc that I have never met and who has never even seen me before, be able to....

Thank you so much for your reply and thank you for giving me such

great advice! I feel so overwhelmed anymore, ya know? I think at

some point, we all deserve to get a break from life, and I think

(like my breaks at target...) that mine is a bit overdue! Oh

well... right now i'm on hold trying to get an appt. with the new

doctor. they just answered...

While you are online posting, why don't you check for the Americans

with Disability Act? I know there are any number of things that

Target apparently doesn't seem to be following in your particular

situation. And do make sure you have copies of everything they give

you and that you have copies of what you have given them. And

remember that you want signatures on everything. If this is a younger

manager, she may not even know how much she could be violating the law!

And I am not so sure but you might already be in a position to start

filing with either the state or federal department --- check near

where you clock in, the poster from one of the Federal Government

offices has to be posted in a highly visible place so that you can

read it. If it is not there, I would perhaps get a picture showing

that it is missing!

Sounds like to me they are going to do the passive-aggressive game of

you an stay but we will make your life miserable or give you bad

reviews until we can either find a " reason " to fire you or you quit.

Those situations always suck and I am sorry.

I am glad that you got your accommodations.

All I can think is this new boss is just a hard ass and trying to tow

the company line. The thing about retail is... well they just don't

care about the person who is doing their work for them. You could

fall over backwards doing everything they wanted but it still wouldn't

be enough. I did everything I was suppose to do in when I worked my

book retail job but I nearly killed myself in the process. No

longer... but of course now I'm worried about money b/c I kind of

needed that PT job. :(

I still think you should get with the vocational rehabilitation

program in your area. Or some of the other job supports that I gave

you. They may help you find a different job that is NOT in retail

that you can do with less strain to you physically and mentally.

Hang in there.
