Guest guest
I can't believe how many ignorant people are out there! I can figure out why they aren't friends anymore! This isn't the first time I've heard this. My boyfriend is very supportive of me and we work together and he has pushed me to tell more people about my disease so we can educate people. But I've encountered the same reaction, one person said.. " yeah my mother in law has fibromyalgia, but she milks it she's always hopped up on pain meds and she is on disability! " I was so outraged!!!! However, it was a customer and we are new and don't have many of those so I tried to bite my tongue, luckily I haven't seen him since. All I could think was about his poor mother in law, hopefully her whole family doesn't feel the same way he did. I was sick for such a long time before finding out that it was fibro...and it was me who told the doctor I think its fibro...I knew I had some disease that may not be cured, but I never thought I could have a disease that people are so uneducated about even in the healthcare community. I never thought I would have to justify taking pain medication or needing to rest especially to medical professionals. And honestly there are tons of us on here who deal with this. I often thought maybe we should write a talk show like Oprah or something and tell her that she should do a show about diseases that are not recognized in the general public or healthcare community. That when you are diagnosed you not only deal with the problems of a disease but the problem of a society not recognizing it as such. At least we all have each other!
