Guest guest
Hi Carla, That is great news that your creatinine and BUN (which is blood urea nitrogen) are at such great level. The creatinine is only slightly elevated, but close to normal and the BUN is exactly in a normal level which means your kidneys are doing a great job :-) Hope this week goes better for you Carla. Guest guest
Hi Carla. BUN means urea. At 8, you're well within the normal range. So, that, plus a serum creatinine of 1.1 puts you in pretty good shape in terms of kidney function. Urea in the blood gets higher and higher the less kidney function you have (because it's a waste product of normal metabolism), but it is not on its own a measure of kidney function like creatinine is, because things like dehydration can affect it a lot (like from being on a diuretic). So when BUN is elevated, it has to be explained somehow, based on other things. However, as I said, yours seems to be within the normal range. So... when you go to your nephrologist, you will already know where you stand :-) ....hopefully, it won't be too different than how I explained it! Guest guest
Hi Carolotta, BUN = blood urea nitrogen....a measure of protein destruction and of course plasma clearance, by the kidneys, of those protenacious metabolites. These occur as a result of perfectly natural protein breakdown, both of those you eat and those that make up you. From the standpoint of Cr clearance, etc. you appear roughly within normal limits, however your primary and secondary care teams must always serve as your principle guides. cheers, Bart IgA- Carla: Hi, everyone! Hi, I just came back from the doctor (Primary) and everything looks great, he saids These are my numbers: BUN:8 Creatine:1.1 I may be off here, but what is a BUN? Can someone please explain in details that I can understand? Thank you. The doctor said all my other tests looks fine. He said since I have been taking so much furesimide (msp), He also put me on Potassium. But he never mention Kidney Function. Just that. So, I will find out on Tuesday when I go see the Nephrologist. Thanks everyone for giving the support I needed this past week. I just am having a hard time with everything. I really appreciate this group so much.
