Guest guest
Hello again, After doing some research on the web I have come upon a piece of information that has pain patient being given Ketomine over several days for a temporary coma and when the pain patient wakes up they are pain free. The doctor states that when the patient wakes up from the coma they are supposed to be pain free because the coma has supposed have reset the body in some way. Anyone know anything about this? Anyone know anything about this? THere was an episode about this on House, MD..Don't know if anyone watches that show...They put Dr. House in a coma using ketamine, cos he has chronic pain in his leg and is addicted to pain meds....It worked temporarily for him, but I don't know if they do this in real life or not **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. Guest guest
Never heard of it. I would be a little afraid of that even if it were a standard practice. thanks for the info though, Debra V. Guest guest
Ketamine is an tranquilizer that paralyzes the muscles in the body. Does virtually nothing for PAIN. I know that it is often considered a " street drug " that gives the user various halucogens. This is one of it's many nasty side affects. It was commonly used as part of an anesthetic for surgeries in the veterinary profession, and probably medical profession, although I do not know that for sure. (I do not believe that it is used that commonly any more.) When used for this purpose, it was simply a combination -- not the only medication used. However, I can see of virtually no valid use for it on someone suffering from Fibro, and would be extremely leery of anyone in the medical profession suggesting so. I am aware that a lot of psych-therapists are now considering electric shock therapy, as administered in a medically controlled situation, as a viable treatment option to sort of " reset " the brain. BUT, any one I've come across in the field that is (in my " uneducated " opinion) semi-competent will admit that they don't know why it works. There are some good theories on it, but they are just that. However, that all pertain's to treatment for mental illness's such as bipolar, etc. **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. Guest guest
I know " House " did an episode on this. But that's make believe. His pain relief was only temporary, then he was back to being a Vicodin user. Sorry I don't know more about the realities.
