Guest guest
Okay, well a lot of us have trouble with weight, darn meds, but I ran into something interesting the other day. My younger sister (can't call her little she's 5'10 " ) who is 26 has been losing weight with the rest of the family. Like most of us in pain have been told she believed losing weight would help her with her back and hip pain. She lost over 30 pounds and she looks really good. (Darn kid got the blond, blue eyed amazon looks so she looks really good!) Funny thing is her back and hip pain actually got MUCH worse. She went to the doctor and was told she has hypermobility and that being heavy had actually helped with the problem. So for once losing weight was a bad choice. It's interesting to watch the family react to her now that she has something that is labled a " chronic " condition and remember how they have acted with me through my last 17 years. Sometimes it makes me want to scream. Tammi
Guest guest
Yeah alot of docs try to blame everything on our weight. I think it is an easy out for them and an easy answer. Sucks doesn't it? I am somewhat overweight. Actually I gained weight the last couple of years just due to the limitaions of fibro and not wanting to do anything if I am not working. (exhaustion and pain). Debra v. bluesmokey72 wrote: Okay, well a lot of us have trouble with weight, darn meds, but I ran into something interesting the other day. Guest guest
I've heard of other people having that happen as well. Not specifically the hypermobility, but when losing weight, especially large amounts of weight, it totally refocuses the stress onto different joints, etc., and can actually make things worse. Sounds like you have a pretty good case of sibling rivalry going on. LOL! Are you saying that your family is giving your sister more compassion and understanding than they've given you? Just wondering. Vent away, hon. Jeanne in WI > Okay, well a lot of us have trouble with weight, darn meds, but I ran into > something interesting the other day. Vent away, hon. > Jeanne in WI Well, there is some to that sib rivalry but it's not so much that as the fact that they believed from the begining that she was in pain and that it wasn't " in her head. " They didn't do that with mine until I was dxed 5 years ago. It's hard when my mother has thought from the first that it was in my head. I still don't understand that. I feel really bad for my sister though. I know what pain is like and to be unable to do anything to change it. There is also the age factor. I was only 22 when my pain became noticable to the family and she is 26. No one likes to think someone of that age has chronic pain. I hope she can get the proper treatment from her doctor.
