You could try capsules of stinging nettle. (They usually omit

the “stinging” part of the name these days, because a lot of people

don’t recognize that as the name of the plant.)

I know that nettle tea was said here to cause irritation for

some. But I’ve used nettle capsules for a long time as a natural antihistamine

and they work extremely well for me, with no bad side-effects.

I can’t tolerate any regular antihistamines by mouth that

I’ve ever tried. They cause gastrointestinal pain, gas, burning. And

nasal sprays have their own problems. (Nasonex works pretty well; it’s by

prescription, but it does have side-effects. I’d definitely try the

nettle, if I were you.)

Like with many herbs, it may take a while –up to a week or

even two, depending on your body – for it to feel like the nettle is

working. But once it does, it seems like you can take it only periodically,

when you need it, and you’ll benefit from it.

It comes as just the leaf or as stems/leaf/flower. I haven’t

read anything about which is better. Just kind one without additions like rice

flour or other starches and you’ll be ok. It’s inexpensive.

Swanson Vitamins, which I use often, has their own brand (leaf

only) for $2.99 for 100 caps (has things like silica, magnesium stearate. They

carry Nature’s Way (stems/leaf/flowers) for $3.49 for 100 caps. Only

gelatin added.

Subject: Legal Antihistaminics

Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone knows of or remembers names of legal, non-drowsy,

over-the-counter antihistaminics for SCDers and if anyone does, please

share. Thanks!
