Guest guest Posted January 31, 2009 Report Share Posted January 31, 2009 Personally, I had no problems after my gallbladder was removed. I can still eat fat without any issues. However, some people do have problems with diarrhea. If it doesn't improve, your doctor can prescribe something that helps with the bile salts, but I don't know what it's called. Anyone else know? Guest guest Posted January 31, 2009 Report Share Posted January 31, 2009 I had my gall bladder removed 7 years before I started the SCD _ I think if I had known about alternative methods of removing gall stones I would never have had it taken out. Being on the diet however has been a major stabilizer for me - I rarely have D or C - but I have to monitor my fat intake because too much will give me major liver ache... I periodically (one every two years) do a liver flush to remove the stones that can also form there... it's very helpful. Guest guest Posted February 2, 2009 Report Share Posted February 2, 2009 , Questran contains sugar, a lot of it, Questran light contains aspartame plus some artificial flavors, but colestid, a pill form is the least illegal---no sweeteners at all, but some illegals. (Big pill) Each COLESTID Tablet contains one gram of micronized colestipol hydrochloride. COLESTID Tablets are light yellow in color and are tasteless and odorless. Inactive ingredients: cellulose acetate phthalate, glyceryl triacetate, carnauba wax, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, povidone, silicon dioxide. COLESTID Tablets contain no calories. Questran Lite contains xantham gum (illegal) and natural and artificial flavors. I can't find the ingredients in Questran, but I remember when I switched from Questran to Questran Lite, the can was about half the size, the difference between sugar and aspartame. I take this drug because of resections--it makes a huge difference. Hope this helps. If it is a medication that you absolutely must have, Elaine said to use it... but I don't think the was talking about large quantities of powder with sugar and stuff in it. Try to get this compounded without illegals if you can. It really can make the difference between success and failure. Guest guest Posted February 2, 2009 Report Share Posted February 2, 2009 Hi , If you have d caused by excess bile in the intestine, Questran Light is likely to help because it absorbs the bile. (At one time bile salts were a treatment for constipation) It wont have any effect on the diet except for the illegals and Elaine said that if you need the med then you should take it. And it wont have an effect on d from other causes---inflammation for one. I can make one suggestion though. You could try taking less than a full packet. I find I don't need the full prescribed amount in order to control d. If a smaller amount will work, then go for it.
