Guest guest
Hi Friends, White vinegar made from corn = legal? All vinegars except for balsamic = legal? (with no illegals listed on label, of course) Thanks! CD 11 years SCD 2 years

Just checking There are mixed views on soy oil. Elaine originally said that soy oil was OK because it was just the oil. Later, it was determined that some very sensitive individuals could react to bits of the soy protein left in the oil if the processing wasn't thorough. Soy oil is definitely banned on the Pecan Bread list. I've never tried it because I am anaphylactic to soy protein, although, ironically, I don't react to soy-based lecithin. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Hi Marilyn--Please excuse what might be a stupid question, soy and soybean oil are the same? Listed as illegal on the BTVC site, soybean oil. I bought Spectrum organic olive oil mayo which I thought was legal until I saw it has soybean and olive oil ( all other ingredients legal) and thought I had messed up. If soybean oil is legal (ie, not a very sensitive individual) I'll go back to using it. Please advise--thanks. Terry, <wry grin> I'm probably not the best person to ask on soy oil since I *do* react to it. (Though weirdly, not to Vitamin E derived from soy, not soy lecithin.) As I said, it is listed as legal in the original book I got in 2001, but was later made illegal because a number of people had issues with it. Now, you know, of course, that I am going to say, " Better you should make your own mayonnaise... it's not that hard! " <g> Then you don't have to worry about non-permitted additions! I'd say it is your call. I honestly cannot recommend any commercial mayonnaise. If you choose to use it, and don't see the progress you hope for, products like it would be the first thing I would yank from my diet. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thanks for your reply--I understand. I really don't use mayo that often. I do make pretty much everything myself that I can--but it is nice to have some things pre made to make one's life easier at times. I made my own mayo, but was worried how long it would last and then, when I needed it on a hectic morning to make lunches, I was afraid I would open up a rank smelling jar and there would go lunch. Ah, I know, we'll just keep it on hand for emergencies--thanks for the help! I make mayo out of the freshest eggs I can find, and then figure on it lasting about as long as the eggs would in the shell -- because the vinegar in the mayo is a preservative for the egg. So far I haven't managed to give myself food poisoning. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
