Guest guest
Hi everyone: I haven't posted much lately but I read and browse through the messages. I just had my latest A1c and general blood testing. My A1c was 6.4 and my over all cholesterol was 162. The good cholesterol was 33 and should be above 40 (exercise for this I'm told). The bad cholesterol was well below what its supposed to be. The doctor had switched me from one medication to another a few weeks ago on a trial basis. I am now on Actos (30 mgs) once a day and have been taking metformin (850 mg twice a day) already. I checked online to see if the order for my 90 day supply of Actos had processed. It had. What shocked me was the price. My Insurance company paid nearly $400.00 and I pay $40.00 share of cost. That is one expensive med! My meds have a 30$ co-pay, so when we process our 90 day supplies, it's $90.00 for each med, so the 40.00 you pay (if it is for a 90 day supply) is not too shabby! And when you take multiple meds (I take 3) it really adds up. So 3 meds times 3 $30.00 copays=$90/ month just for copays, not counting strips, lancets, etc...... So you are correct Diabetes is an expensive ailment, Gail
Guest guest
Remember to keep your reciepts for tax time. Unreimbursed medical expenses are often deductable. That is really good. I was surprised at the over all cost of the med. Almost 400 bucks the insurance company pays for it. That was the part I was surprised at. A 90 day supply. Who could afford that without insurance? , > Gail
Guest guest
I think it needs to be over a certain percent..(7%?) of your income before it counts though. Guest guest
That is true, but you'd be amazed how quickly it adds up. Not just drugs, but dr.'s copays and treatments not covered. For example, if you decide to go for TCM, homeopathy, or naturopathy, which most insurance won't cover, as long as you go to a licensed practitioner, what you pay will count. Even some OTC meds will count. RE: Re: A1c and medication price shock I think it needs to be over a certain percent..(7%?) of your income before it counts though.
