Giselle,How do you take the influenzinium?  Do you take a small amount of it every day all winter?  Same question for the gelsemium.  I suppose that when taken in very small amounts, the lactose in the pellets does not cause a problem?  I can't take flu shots because I am allergic to formaldehyde.  I have been taking Elderberry, which usually works, but this year it has not been enough, so I would love to have a backup plan.thank youJeanineceliacSCD Jan 07On Feb 20, 2009, at 10:16 AM, Gisele wroteI've taken the homeopathic flu remedy from boiron called influenzinum --it's created each year and is based on the strains the cdc says will be most likely that year..we alternate it with gelsemium which is a more general flu remedy...in 7 years of taking it we have not had a bad flu! ...we did get norwalk once a couple years back ( flu shots don't work for it either ) but for me it only lasted about 4-5 hours, my daughter had it the worst --it lasted 7 hours ...so for 3 ibs/celiacs --one a cancer/chemo survivor that's not too bad!! other bonus --it only costs $15 a year for all 3 of us! ( it doesn't work for colds mind you --we still get a couple of those a year --but no flus!)hth, gisele

Jeanine,

Boiron also makes a product for people to use who have had flu symptoms for less than 48hrs. Many of my customers (many of whom refuse flu shots) swear by it. here is a link for more info.

You can check out more of the products elsewhere on the site. I did not see the influenzinum, but I think I have in the past. It may be that it is available early in the season.

Hi, you melt 3 pellets under your tongue once a month. If we know we've been exposed to someone with the flu, we take 3 pellets of the gelsemium under the tongue ...so far always just that one dose has done it, tho i know my boss says if you start feeling a flu coming on, you can take a dose every hour for a day or two --but we've never had to go that far! ... my kids always let me know "it's flu pellet day" as the pellets are sweet ... they contain lactose (illegal) but it must be a small amount--because I don't react to it --even though I don't tolerate dairy!? hth, gisele

Hi,Thank you.  I plan to try this out.JH sent a website where they also sell it in liquid form with varying amounts of alcohol.  Would this be a good way to take it too?  If so, which amount of alcohol would be appropriate?JeanineHi, you melt 3 pellets under your tongue once a month.  If we know we've been exposed to someone with the flu, we take 3 pellets of the gelsemium under the tongue ...so far always just that one dose has done it, tho i know my boss says if you start feeling a flu coming on, you can take a dose every hour for a day or two --but we've never had to go that far! ... my kids always let me know "it's flu pellet day" as the pellets are sweet ... they contain lactose (illegal) but it must be a small amount--because I don't react to it --even though I don't tolerate dairy!? hth, gisele

Eileen,

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I forgot this was a lactose based homeopathic, or I would not have brought it up here. If I used the lactose containing homeopathic during the time I was strict SCD, I kept it to 1-2 doses. It seemed to kick up my immune system nicely without sending me into a flare. This was one of the few exceptions I made after I was mostly symptom free. It may have been different if I had used it in the beginning when I was so ill. I started this after one of my Dr's gave me Cipro, and I flared for weeks. This was after several months of being in "remission".
