Guest guest
As an insomniac for over four years now, I finally found a doctor that is open to prescribing Cortef for adrenal issues. I have tried many vitamins and herbs and although I feel that they make some difference, it is clearly not enough. I took saliva, urine and blood tests and my doctor said that my thyroid was slightly low and only my morning cortisol was slightly low (16). Everything else he said was in normal range. The day I took the tests, I did sleep well the night before, I took each sample about an hour later than I should have and I was taking herbs like ginseng. I was prescribed 5 mg of Cortef one time at the beginning of the day and 30 mg of Armour Thyroid. I took the Cortef with great success for two and a half weeks. I was sleeping better than I had been in years. I randomly tried taking a drop of Lugol's iodine one morning and after that, sleep has been much worse. I tend to wake up in the middle of the night and have trouble falling back to sleep. It has been three weeks of mostly this. I went to see the doctor Wednesday and he told me to continue the Cortef at 5 mg and to begin taking the Armour, which he wanted to me to start much sooner. I resisted taking the Armour based on what I had read on StoptheThyroidMadness.com concerning having enough cortisol to be able to circulate the thyroid hormones. Needless to say, I took the 30 mg of Armour yesterday morning and last night was one of the most difficult nights of sleep I have had in a long time. Today I decided against taking any more Armour, but is the solution to this most likely more cortisol? The two other noticeable symptoms I have in addition to insomnia are hypoglycemia and pain in the back between my shoulder blades. If any one has any furthur advice or the name of another doctor in the New York City area, I am all ears. Thanks, Rob
