Guest guest
Hi Jodi, Thank you for the suggestions. Ghee, avocado, and other oils would certainly help. I was trying to redo the intro and follow the stages since I was not very strict with the stages the first time. But I just don’t know if I can handle it. I am used to a very high fat diet so to go from eating roughly 140 grams of fat a day to eating hardly any fat at all is really hard. I don’t know how people make it through the intro. a From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of jodah235 Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2009 7:44 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Re: adherence to diet Hi a, I personally was so nauseas when I started the diet that I have %110 adhered since. I have screwed up many times accidentally eating illegals and in the begining it was so hard for to cook that I ordered a lot of food ready made. I tried to do what I could. It was incredibly challenging. Finally I went online and learned the " real " way to do SCD and joined these online support groups. My husband was incredible helping me with food prep and cooking. I was so weak. What about trying some squash like butternut? You can add ghee and sea salt and it is incredibly satiating and delicious. What about an avocado in the next few days? Sometimes these insane craves are due to bad bugs screaming because we aren't feeding them. You'll get through it. I had bouts of insane craves that would send me into a dark room crying my mind out. Sometimes I had these junky nightmares of eating illegals too and I would wake up- so angry at myself as I was so sure it was real. It's hellacious. You'll pull through like many of us have!! I hope people will have more suggestions for you and maybe Marilyn and Kim M can pull something out of their SCD cap. Jodi
Guest guest
Hi Jodi, I made bone broth from turkey – cooked it 24 hours. I have been eating that and turkey all day long. I think you are right, I need to tailor it to my needs. I was eating 6 T of VCO but it was suggested to me that it might be causing die off. However, I feel just as distended without it as I do with it. I would really like to do 3 days of just one food and then add one at a time to see if there are food allergies, but I am just not sure I can. There’s too much going on I think. a From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of jodah235 Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2009 7:54 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Re: adherence to diet Hi a, What day of intro are you on? How about making a bone broth? And cooking for 10+ hours? That is what I had to do when I had to restart the whole diet due to a massive flare. The bone broth and Ghee really helped me feel satiated. Are you eating fish on Intro? Maybe something like broiled Salmon can work for you? Sometimes -some- of us have to kind of tweak intro and tailor it to our own needs. As long as you don't go crazy and intro too many things at once- you can see how things work for you. Personally, I would go with bone broth and Ghee into food. Start there. How is the C Diff testing going? Did you get your results yet? Hang in there.. Totally rooting for you! Jodi

Guest guest
Hi, Today I had water, weak coffee, turkey broth, and turkey meat. The turkey is from a place that pasture raises them and they don’t give antibiotics or hormones. I took HCl (no illegal ingredients) with the turkey and broth. I know supplements are not recommended but I truly need the HCl. I take as many as 8 of them (520 mg each) with a meal of veggies, fat, and protein and if the veggies aren’t pureed they still come out undigested. That’s it for today. a From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of jodah235 Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2009 8:04 PM To: BTVC-SCD Subject: Re: adherence to diet Hi a, Maybe you can list -exactly- what you are eating and the amounts? That way some of us can help you more efficiently! My distended belly took quite a while to subside- I still get it at times (I am getting a colonoscopy and small bowel series in March maybe it will show what's going on? I am also going through C Diff carrier testing too.) Anyway, the bloat and distended belly takes time. And if you have active C Diff or Toxo or any other critter you may need to look into more aggressive treatment! I know- it's a bummer that it isn't more clear cut!! It seems you need some fats in your intro. Have you tried buying knucklebones or Marrow bones and adding that to your Turkey soup? That is what I made my bone broths from. Guest guest
Thanks Jodi – I just responded to the other post regarding the bone broth. Nothing but bones, water, lemon juice or ACV, and let it simmer 24 hours. In August I was fine with 5 to 6 HCl. I could also tolerate butter, eggs, cashews, popcorn, kale, and other foods I normally do not eat. I was on vacation and cheated a little bit. Then in September things started going downhill. Now I need more HCl, eggs make me swell up horribly, more so than I am already on a daily basis, I am not sure about cashews, and overall I feel awful. I have taken as many as 10 HCl per meal, and they’re not huge meals, and don’t get a burning sensation. More and more I think my issues are hormonal/adrenal rather than bacterial. Or it’s a parasite or the C. Diff. not to say that SCD would not be good for me – I don’t ever plan on going back to a SAD. I stopped that in 1996. As for the HCl, without it I feel very poorly. By mid-day I feel I can’t function, my legs retain so much water they feel like lead, my lower back hurts, and I can’t think straight. I have tried it several times and I cannot stop taking them. At least not right now., Maybe when my adrenals are stronger. Until I get my test results I won’t worry so much about the intro and stages. I will just eat the legal foods that I think I can tolerate although it is hard to tell right now. ,___

Guest guest
>Have you tried adding Marrow Bones or knuclebones into the soup- that would make it a really hearty bone broth and it is very satiating. >Add a bunch of salt too. No, have not tried that. I do add Himalayan sea salt when I eat it but not during cooking. >What kind of ACV are you using? We need to make sure that teh ACV we use is filtered and does not contain " The Mother " in it. So in >other words we like the clear looking ACV and not the opaque one. Spectrum makes a great organic ACV that is filtered. Yup, plain filtered ACV but not organic. >Wow a.. So intense... >Cashews are very starchy.. popcorn is pretty hard on digestion too >(obviously illegal) I know, I could eat so many foods in Jul/August, but my hormones weren’t so messed up either. I was put on a really high dose of progesterone and testosterone and I think it really messed me up. >Cashews are a food I go utterly crazy with and lose all sense of >proportion. I think they feed the bad bugs in me. >I think you not sticking %100 to the stages makes sense. But I still >think you need to find your core group foods and figure whats easiest >on your system as possible. I seem to do ok with zucchini, celery, peppers, avocado, apple, pork, ostrich, elk, and some others. Also VCO, olive oil, ghee, and macadamia nut oil. I just worry about eating the same foods over and over. I know rotation is not necessary on SCD, but I seem to become intolerant to foods I eat often. From what I understand, food intolerances can be due to bacterial overgrowth, candida overgrowth, and also adrenal issues. I figure mine are probably mostly due to adrenal issues. My last test in December indicated normal cortisol aM and then elevated mid-day, evening, and midnight. >You say you need fats so maybe you can prioritize on making ghee, >eating some broiled salmon. Making a bone broth with Marrow Bones. >That should satiate you. After a bit you can add an avocado. All we have around here is Walmart and Kroger and all the salmon I have found is oddly low in fat. LOL >When I intro a new vegetable I steam it, puree it and add a dollop of >ghee and sea salt. Delicious! Wait till you eat squash this way! >YUMYUMYUM! I LOVE pureed veggies and I add ghee or VCO. I just made some ghee. >From my experience even if things aren't working going slowly and not >eating too many foods in one day has been key in keeping my belly >bloat down. Well, that used to work for me in the past but like I said, since 11/18 I just look like I am pregnant all day every day. Just a cup of tea or coffee and it gets worse. a

Diff. - meaning you are a carrier. There are different ways of testing. The lab my doctor uses tests for antibodies in saliva and actual bacteria/parasites in the stool a ://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/

I would like to know also what tests he is doing as there is a difference of opinion which test is best to detect C. Diff. without false positives or false negatives. a
