Guest guest
, We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers for a easy surgery and easy recovery. In Feb I had a lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy and axillary as well. I remember waking up in recovery with a lot of pain and nauseous. Pain meds and anti-nausea drugs helped both. I was in the hospital over night and went home. Recovery went well, did my exercises, needed pain killers only a couple times and followed drs orders closely. It wasn't a 'fun' time but it wasn't as bad as I thought. About 2 weeks ago I went in and had a mastectomy of the same breast. This time I was given verset (not sure how that is spelled, but it was like valium) to calm me down before surgery (I would take it if offered or ask for it).... made the trip to lala land less stressful and easier for me. Something about that feeling of falling asleep under the anesthesia was strange. I also got Dramamine before surgery to help with the nausea. That worked great! I did have pain with this surgery as well. Got pain meds in the hospital which did great for the pain, but really made me sick. Once they got the nausea taken care of, I was fine. I really felt I did not have as much pain from the mastectomy, probably due to the fact that they did not go into my lymph glands under my arms. Only one slice this time unlike the first surgery. Again I was there overnight and went home. Recovery went (is going) well and I'm again doing my exercises and following drs orders. I'm sure other ladies can tell you more. I don't think either surgery was that bad... but the anticipation is always worse. Good luck on Thursday. I'll be thinking of you. Guest guest
Hi , Will be sending prayers and good wishes your way. I had a bilateral mastectomy and for me, it was the easiest part of treatment. Almost painless (what little pain there was easily handled with meds) - super fast recovery. Wishing you as easy a time... Ann Chemo Hats: www.cjhats.com New Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Call regular phones from your PC and save big. Guest guest
That is exactly what I had! I am praying for your nodes. Mine came out clear. Yea, Yea, Yea!!! What to expect 1. You will be taken first to a prep area where you will disrobe, put on a gown and have an IV inserted. 2. You will talk to the anesthesologist. Be sure to tell he/she of any prior problems you have had with general anesthesia. 3. You will meet with your surgeon and probably the OR nurse. 4. The anestheologist will inject something in your line to relax you just before you are taken to the OR. 5. You will be awake enough to get from the gurney to the OR table. 6. The anestheologist will put electrodes on your chest to monitor your heart, a blood pressure cuff on the arm opposite the surgery site and a clip on your finger to monitor oxygen levels. Then she/he will inject a stronger sedative into your line and put a mask over your nose/mouth. 7. That's it you won't remember anything until you wake up in the recovery room, where you will be monitored until you are stable than taken to your room.
