Guest guest
Does anybody with Delayed Pressure Urticaria that's had it for awhile notice whether or not their swelling is less visible than in the beginning? My swelling used to be super giant angio. and now it pretty much stays under my skin. It is still just as much if not more painful than in the beginning. ( 1996 ) I get welts all the time still but I haven't seen the big, puffy kind of swelling very much at all. The swelling seems more like hard knots now. Sometimes red and itchy before it swells, and sometimes I just feel it really hard under my skin. I don't get it on my eyes and lips anymore either. Sometimes my tongue will get a knot in the side though. I'm much more itchy than I've ever been too. I've never had CU hives though. Only DPU. Thanks for any response........... ~ dpu
Guest guest
Yep Alena can now wear pants with elastic if they are loose. Something she could NEVER do before. I think she is glad to be rid of overalls overalls and more overalls. Guest guest
Hello- I have had DPU for 8 years. At times the swelling is not as visible as it used to be, but as in your case the pain is just as intense. I have not had much problem with swelling of the face or lips. Only one episode really stands out in my mind. Both eyes swelled shut the morning after drinking a bit too much Tequila. I ended up in the emergency room for that one. That is the only time I have had to go to the emergency room for my CU. My main problem is swelling of the feet, ankles, fingers, hands, elbows, etc. I also have hives that appear almost daily on various parts of my body. I also have periods of intense itching with no hives at all or just small little bumps. Yesterday, during one of those periods of intense itching, I also became extremely dizzy and nauseated. That one was a completely new one for me an very unpleasant. I hope this helps. in Texas DPU symptom survey Does anybody with Delayed Pressure Urticaria that's had it for awhile notice whether or not their swelling is less visible than in the beginning? Guest guest
Hello . Since I've been diagnosed (July, 2000) with CIU, Angiodemia, & DPU, I've never had much of an itch. My last major attack of urticaria was last Dec. when my face swelled up and hives spread all over my body. Since then, the medicine? has slowed down the hives. I'm on Allegra 180 in AM and Zantac and singular in PM. Very confusing to me { & Dr. allergist). Right now I'm basically tired with a slight swelling around the outside of my face/neck/ankles/lower leg/hand areas. The Dr. thinks the swelling is from the Prednisone I take at the onset of angiodemia (face/lips swell up bad)- now it's not too large but still not going away. I also avoid putting any pressure on my hands by not using a hammer or tools, or gripping anything hard, etc. Best, Harry in IN In urticaria@y..., march@a... wrote: > Does anybody with Delayed Pressure Urticaria that's had it for awhile notice > whether or not their swelling is less visible than in the beginning? > > My swelling used to be super giant angio. and now it pretty much stays under > my skin. Guest guest
Dear , I've had DPU since 1990. I definitely think it gradually got better with the swelling. I still get the hard knots you wrote about too. My hands still swell if I hold something different for a long time -- like the lawnmower or a rake. My feet used to swell terribly with any shoes but soft Keds sneakers, but now I can wear loafers and one pair of sandals without too much trouble. I may still get some hives from them but not the swelling. Sherrie
Guest guest
Tree -- I haven't heard of this specifically. This sounds similar to the blood poisoning where there is a vein that is red and the coloring moves up a limb. Perhaps you had blood poisoning along with this? or an infection of some type... (anyone?) Another thing that used to happen (I suppose the medication stops that from happening now) is that from the original site a vein of red - just like a thin winding root - would reach out and carry the process to another area - Has anyone had anything like that???? Guest guest
Hi ...I've been thinking about this alot, but cannot get a grip on it. During my 42 years of this I have had so many variations and lots of changes. First of all way back then I had no medication at all and now it is so much more under control. However these are some of the things I can note: first of all the pain factor has always been the same - horrendous. then the swelling is just as visible - except for the fact that the meds stop it from growing into the giants that they still would become given the chance! also the DPU past and present often starts with a harder red spot (the most obvious is if it starts from sitting too long or on a hard surface). Sometimes it is more like a general inflammation under the skin that grows and swells. I have always and still do swell VERY frequently on my lips or mouth area - Currently aside from when I actually hit/bruise/pressure another place on my body, my mouth is the most frequently struck. I used to swell as often on my eyes, but this is very rare now????? Also, In the past I have swelled equally as much on my hands and my feet. My elbows used to swell very frequently too (starting with a small hard red bump and growing and growing) - but that has not happened for years (WHAT A STRANGE PROSESS!!!!!). Another thing that used to happen (I suppose the medication stops that from happening now) is that from the original site a vein of red - just like a thin winding root - would reach out and carry the process to another area - Has anyone had anything like that???? luckily some of this is only memories...things can get better!!!!...Love, Tree DPU symptom survey Does anybody with Delayed Pressure Urticaria that's had it for awhile notice whether or not their swelling is less visible than in the beginning? Guest guest
Tree, Have they ruled out vasulitis for you? It can cause urticaria and is very difficult to tell the difference in some people between the chronic urticaria and and the urticaria caused by vasculitis. Just a thought. Guest guest
Thanks Joan - yes, vasculitis had been ruled out a long time ago...(does what I describe remind you of what people with vasculitis get????)..Tree Re: DPU symptom survey > Tree, > > Have they ruled out vasulitis for you? Guest guest
I wanted to say thank you for ppl commenting on DPU. This is the form of hives I have. Reading everyones words has beena great source of comfort. SOmetimes daily things like carrying groceries or exericse are painful ( I do have a very funny/awful story about my rear end and an exercise bike..) BUt seriously thanks so much. I am saving the name of that doctor in chicago.. if things keep not getting better.. Ill call and see how long it would take to see him (its a 5 hour drive or a 45 minute flight) AS of right now I cant see a specialist at any of the major medical centers until october.
