Guest guest
About the virus thing, I've been having such a hard time getting ant kind of special extra virus detctor or spyware. I have a Mac which are notoriously immune to viruses. I was trying out the new AOL to get their virus protection, spybot, etc. All It did was congratulate me on buying a mac, a machine which is virtually impervious to viruses or other kinds of tampering. Apple monitors my machine --every time it so much as freezes I have to file alive report. About the cat thing, I had my cat since 1990 and got sick in 1995, I also had a cat in high school and my mom gave her away when I went to college. I first was diagnosed with sarc in 1994, about a year after Tinkerbell, the invisible cat, died. She stayed in my son's room most of the time; I would go weeks without seeing her. In 1999 in had the first manifestation of sarc, the hearing loss & transient facial palsy. Then a year later I started the systemic stuff. I didn't get another cat until 2001, a little barn cat who was the sweetest thing. She died about a year later of unknown causes; acted normal all day, then died. A few months later I got another cat from a friend who was moving. Her name was Muriel, which immediately became Kitty, after the first Kitty. A year later, the Cat came up from Texas to live with us. So I don't see a pattern of cats & sarc in my case. > > BTW, I got a virus warning from an acquaintance today. Guest guest
Four cats, two dogs, a bird (which I have to admit I left with them)! I don't know how many fish, a hamster and a guinea pig which may have just passed away. Uhh, Kim, is it really that hard to tell if a guinea pig is dead or alive? Clue: if it's stiff & cold, it's probably gone on to the Rainbow Bridge. Guest guest
, we started with two supposedly brothers. As you know, they can reproduce every 30 days. If you can separate the male right after the female gives birth, then the nursing will prevent pregnancy for about 30 days, so that gives you 60 days. But meanwhile, the litter is fast maturing. At one time we had 19 gerbils in 3 cages & I was constantly shifting gerbils, trying to keep them from mating. The problem is that the female doesn't look pregnant until she delivers. Usually our first clue was hearing tiny little peeps when we woke up in the morning & by that time she had probably gotten pregnant again! The kids & I used to take out what we thought were females & examine them to see if their tummies looked a little poochy, but we weren't very successful. I was so desperate at one time that I considered dosing the whole bunch with oral contraceptives! I tried to calculate the dosage for a gerbil's weight, then was going to crush a pill & dissolve it in their water. They would all get treated, even the males! I didn't do it, because I was afraid I would kill them all. We finally gave away all but 2 (Scooter & Skeeter, from the very first litter). One guy took a bunch of them, said he was going to give them to his relatives. We found out later that he had a snake, so I think I know where those little guys went. Scooter & Skeeter lived to be ancient by gerbil years; they were almost 4 years old when they died; their hair had actually turned gray. I really enjoyed the gerbils; they were cute & very entertaining. But I don't think I could handle them now. Rose Re: cat poll Rose...you are on a roll tonite! I have buried dozens of gerbils, too. Never believe anyone when they say they know the sex of two gerbils... Cuz two became thirty or more before they died of some respiratory ailment. s.Rose wrote: Four cats, two dogs, a bird (which I have to admit I left with them)!
