Guest guest
My dad has coeliac disease, fibromyalgia, and thyroid disease. Me and my sisters have all got the coeliac gene. Anyhow my dad is 55 years old. He was only diagnosed with coeliac a year ago. But he has had symptoms for over 20 years. Since starting the diet he has not put on any weight for over a year. He is still skinny to the bone and in alot of pain still. We are also vegetarian. But I do want him to try this diet. When he had the biopsy it told him he was fructose intolerant and sucrose intolerant. So he was told he he cannot eat tomatoes and yet in this diet you can. He was also told that he was not allowed any fruits. Does the diet address the fructose in fruit. How can he eat fructose if he is fructose intolerant? And I do have the book breaking the vicous cycle. He would never touch honey because it just makes him sick. Guest guest
It's great of you to be concerned about your Dad this way. If you are vegetarian, are you at least willing to eat free-range / pastured eggs and dairy? What about fish? It's very difficult to do SCD if you are vegan. SCD does not specifically address the issue of fructose, but many of us find that we do better on lower fructose fruits. I personally, eliminated almost all honey and fruit for many months, and then was able to gradually add some fruits back. Tomatoes, or, more correctly, homemade tomato juice and sauce, with the skins and seeds removed were something I was glad I was able to add back in fairly soon. Just because a food is SCD-legal does not mean that you or he will be able to tolerate it at once. Sometimes it takes months of careful adding food to develop a wide range of tolerated foods. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
