Guest guest
Thanks, Katy. I'm going to call them tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Terry Smuckers PB/Kim M/Terry Terry, I remember something from a couple years ago. I'm hoping Kim M will see this thread. You can taste that it is sweeter then just ground up peanuts.I think the peanuts butter was not 100%. I also noticed that if it's just peanuts like the ingredients list, then why is the low fat version 2 grams of sugar? Anyway peanut butter is very easy to grind, I just putpeanuts into the food processor and a couple minutes later it's peanut butter. Guest guest
Terry, doubt a phone call is going to get you the information. You don't really know what qualifications the person on the other end of the phone has. Guest guest
Hi Katy and everyone, OK- called Smuckers 'cause I was pissed and had a very lengthy conversation with a woman from customer service. Yes, Katy, you are right-the low fat version is not legal, it has maltodextrin added to replace fat and it says so right on the label. However, the no salt natural is legal as it only has peanuts that are dry roasted, nothing else--no starch, no hidden sugar. The natural PB with salt is also not 100% legal as she told me it is not Kosher or sea salt that is added. As we know, common table salt has dextrose added to it. This woman, who obviously took great pride in working for Smuckers, told me that Smuckers has a long history of disclosing ingredients long before it was mandatory--that Smuckers sits on the board of several regulatory committees to enforce accurate and true labeling. She says the company takes great pride in listing exactly what is in the product. In the all natural PB there is 1 Gm of sugar on the label and that is the natural sugar in peanuts. She personally has visited the factory many times and watched the manufacturing process and says the only thing in the PB is peanuts. ( and salt, in the salted versions). As far as tasting sweeter than home made PB== she says that different peanuts from different regions harvested at different times and the roasting process can affect the taste of PB. She adamantly stood by the labeling and even though she knew the 2% law, she said that at Smucker's if it ain't on the label, it's not in the jar. I don't eat a lot of PB--when I do, it doesn't bother me. The reason I chose Smucker's was it had an authentic taste, to me. Even though I am in remission, I don't tolerate almond flour baked goods all that well. I can eat almost everything that is legal without a problem, so for me--I'm sticking with the Smucker's all natural no salt added and add my own salt. Thanks everyone for their help and kind input.
