Guest guest
Interesting product, only I didn't see a breakdown of the nutrients online. Do you have a can label that you can share the details of what's in these supplements and how much you need to take? fg At 12:35 PM 02/27/2000 -0800, you wrote: > > >Hi Cheryl- >I got the name and web site of these vitamins from >someone else on this list - maybe Steve? Guest guest
<<I didn't think with the MBG that more than 4-6ft of intestine got bypassed>> It's my impression, from talking to Dr. Rutledge, that 6 feet of bypass is pretty much standard for everyone. Guest guest
If you will check the website and the patient book, you will see that Dr R has indeed addressed this issue. We have decreased absorption and do have to take a multi vitamin 3 times a day. He recommends OneSource from K-Mart, but whatever good vitamin/mineral tablet you may like would probably be okay. This is extremely important!! You will see also that we post-ops should have our blood monitored to make sure we are getting the nutrients we need. This is also a big issue with pregnancy. Please check his info. It's not a biggie - we just need to take our vitaminsX3 a small price to pay for improved health and quality of life in so many other ways. >

Where can i go for help with finding the proper vitamins to give him?> Deidre, Try www.kirkmanlabs.com. It's a real good place to start. They are very helpful and they are very familiar with the cf/gf diet. Pat

Guest guest
I'm sure or someone can give you the full ins and outs but as long as mine were drinking breasmilk fairly regularly and eating a variety of foods I never worried too much. Carys now she has stopped breastfeeding,(2 ) isn't drinking milk at all but she does eat meat and loads of fromage frais and she doesn't look anaemic. She's a total chocaholic and there's loads of iron in that too. As for vitamins, well none of them eat a green vegetable from one end of the week til the next so I suppose they could possibly do with supplementing but again, none of them seem unhealthy and they all eat apples and drink orange juice and I'm sure the sun will shine again in a couple of months and build up their Vit D stores. Oh don't listen to me Phyllis, I'm just a mother, bimbling along and vaguely hopeful that they will grow up scruvy and rickets free! No red meat, no sunlight to speak of (harhar - in this weather?)... I picked some baby vitamins up the other day in Boots and SO looked at me horrified and said " He's a perfectly healthy baby - you're not giving him vitamins! " . That ended that discussion. Dan does eat plenty of apricots, nuts/raisins and greens, has loooads of butter rather than spread, and still BF, so I'm hoping he's ok. Guest guest
I asked my HV about vits when Kieran was 6 months as I knew people who'd been given them at 6 months with their babies when I had . She said that as long as they're getting a reasonably varied diet they shouldn't need any supplementary vitamins. I would have thought that he's getting all he needs from apricots, nuts/ raisins and greens but that's only my opinion. Cerys whose 2 year old appears to eat nothing but fruit. >

Guest guest
I picked up a flier at the conference. This is what it says: Introducing Vista Vitamins - Multi-Vitamin and Mineral Formula for post gastric bypass surgery patients A non-compliant vitamin regime can be a serious threat to the postoperative gastric bypass patient. Multiple doses of essential vitamins packaged as 'hard to swallow pills' risk being ignored following weight loss surgery, potentially compromising the patient's nutrient intake. Other off-the-shelf vitamins amy be lacking int henecessary nutrients or correct dosage. To address these concerns, Vista Medical Technologies, Inc. has developed Vista Vitamins, a post-surgical vitamin and mineral formulation. VistaVitamins provide morbidly obese patients, who have undergone gastric bypass surgery, with a convenient method to maintain their essential vitamin intake, particularly during the first 6-8 weeks following surgery. The multi-vitamin and mineral formula of VistaVitamins is packaged as chewable, flavored tablets in daily dose packets taken in the morning and afternoon. VistaVitamins are endorsed and promoted by the entertainer Carnie , who has enjoyed successful weight loss following her minimally invasive gastric bypass surgery in 1999. Ms. has received considerable media attention and has been a source of inspiration to many morbidly obese people considering similar surgery. Vista Medical Technologies, Inc. is making VistaVitamins available to patients through participating surgeons as well as directly via the Internet. VistaVitamins are designed to make a real contribution in aiding compliance by providing the preferred vitamin regimen patients are expected to follow post operatively. Carnie will be promoting the advantages of VistaVitamins throughout the national media, including web presence on SpotlightHealth.com. This powerful media approach has proven to be a most effective way of reaching the morbidly obese community because of Ms. 's personal testament and example. If you or a colleague would like to explore the opportunity to supply your patients with VistaVitamins multi-vitamin and minerals, please contact a Vista Account Executive at: 1-, ext 3014 Vitamins I received a note from someone talking about vitamins that were previewed at the ASBS conference in DC. The person had lost most of the info, but they were a package a day - all chewable. They were to be marketed to surgeons and support group leaders only. Apparently Carnie is going to be their spokesperson. If anyone has any further info, please let me know. Thanks, Marjie Wassermann

Guest guest
Yes, I am very curious. If you have to take your iron separately, that's one dose. If you need to take calcium a MINIMUM of 3 times, that is 3 doses. So, how can you get a correct amount into your face in two doses? See what I mean? Guest guest
Does vitamins help in alleviating a malaise or a feeling of the blahs? Marge, I'd go by my local Health Food Store, and talk to them There are alot of different herbs and vitamins that might help-- but remember, you're on immune suppressants-- so you really don't want to "boost" your immune system. The outcome is that you'd need more suppressants to get it back down, and a cycle gets started. Malaise and fatigue is a huge part of this disease. A good multi-vitamin might help, add that to pacing yourself-- and making sure you get plenty of rest and fluids-- and that will help as much. Guest guest
Does anyone know of gluten free vitamins that are also scd safe? This means no sucrose lactose, starch, glucose,dextrose,F0S,inulin whey and yeast free as well! I'm new to the diet, but this is my understanding so far. Is this correct? From my investigation so far they are not out there. I also think its important to have a D3 in the vitamin or calcium rather than D2. Is D3 a starch. Is there a vitamin for SCD that has currently been analyzed and checked out as safe by chemist or scientist- recently! Thanks crissa
Guest guest
Crissa,Freeda vitamins, available at http://www.lucyskitchenshop.com/freedavitamins.html are legal. And GI Pro Health, http://www.giprohealth.com/ has some SCD legal vitamins and supplements. Everything Lucy at Lucy's Kitchen Shop sells is SCD legal, however, everything that GI Pro Health sells is not so you need to be careful when shopping there. Usually it will say if it is SCD legal or not. Take care,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999, SCD 2002 Does anyone know of gluten free vitamins that are also scd safe?
