Tammy says:

<< have been having blurred vision though. >>

Tammy, prednisone affects the lens of the eye -- can cause it to change its

shape. Can also affect eye pressure. There was a time when I had a

definite blurring of peripheral vision, noticeable when I rolled my eyes all

the way left or right. The doc did a pressure check, checked for any signs

of other problems and, just as a precaution he ordered a visual field exam to

be sure there were not spots of blurriness or missing vision on the retina.

As it turned out, by the time he did the tests the problem had virtually

gone away. I had started using anti inflammatory eye drops that washed out

some gunk that was apparently coating my eyes and prevented new goo from

forming after I used it for a few days. The reason the doc gave me that is

because I would wake up at night and my eyes were stuck shut from the goo.

Anyway, that goo floating around in the eye may very well have been the cause

of blurred peripheral vision -- who knows?? All I know is that the problem,

including the blurred vision, disappeared after I used the eye drops.

I have had to wear reading glasses for about 10 years and required stronger

and stronger ones as time passed. I was up to a number 2.00 when all of a

sudden that didn't work -- was too strong. Then 1.75 was too strong and

1.50 seemed just right. My Rheumy says it is because of the prednisone

changing the shape of the lens. As a result I keep reading glasses of

various strengths on my desk and start with the weakest every day and see how

it works. Some days I have to use the 2.00 and sometimes I even go down to

1.25!! My pred is now down to 10 mg (MILESTONE REACHED!!) and I won't know

how that affects my vision untill I have been there for a while. In the

meantime I still have glasses of varied strength with me in my purse.

soon. I hope it's getting better like yours and not worse. (I never thought

that it could improve) That's a good thing. Hope you are doing okay. Keep

- The number for Dr. Oppenheimer is (I'm getting this

from some notes my husband and I jotted on a piece of paper so if its

wrong, let me know and I'll search again). He's in town, New Jersey.

Dr. Weinstocks phone number is . He's on Long Island in New

York, I believe. I'm in PA

too. I think it's a real good idea to consult several doctors - they don't

all think alike,

and the more people you have working to help you, the better. Jeanne
