Guest guest
I've been religious about taking my Lipitor with Coumadin and Ambien at night. The rigorous routine I've found that works for me is to lay out my meds every am on rising--Nadolol, Synthroid and Verapamil for the morning with the above trio set aside for the evening. If I don't do this religiously I find I get really screwed up--did I take the pink one or the white or blue or not?? If it's not there and I methodically laid them out at the break of day then I did take it (or the cat got it). Lil, you have introduced yet another wrinkle---is it an error to take the lipitor and coumadin together?? My legs seem to have been getting progressively weaker and achier since last July and I've reached the point where I'm trying to connect dots related to meds.. have decided to back off on the statin to see if there is some sort of muscular interaction. Also I've been bulking up on my torso ever since being diagnosed and treated for AF in '97...I've wondered if the meds are contributing to that?? Sorry you are feeling so lousy---who knows how we'd feel if we could cut our meds in half. What a crap shoot. I'm convinced the docs over-medicate us.... Puzzled, Shelby Digestion and statins and warfarin question posed second time + valsalva Since this last week was such a difficult one, stomach wise mostly...I have been taking a second look at my pills. I am convinced that when my stomach is lousy my heart is lousy. They are lying on top of one another and I think they are in cahoots. Learned that statins are not supposed to be taken with digoxin or coumadin! LOL! I wonder how many of us do that anyway - I put the question out but NO ANSWERS SO FAR...still wondering...**any statin takers out there on warfarin/coumadin/digoxin or any of the above? If so would like to hear your thoughts, your doctor's comments etc.** So, I moved my Zocor (statin) to nighttime. I take it before bed with a FULL glass of water as it SAYS to do (when all else fails follow the directions!!) I have also for 2 days backed off my digoxin. I take 2 propranolols (Inderal) 20 mg each and waiting to see if they keep things relatively bearable (this does NOT mean I do not have palps or flip flops on occasion because I do and they are not fun)
Guest guest
shelby, I am on Cumadin since the end of June, when I got out of the hosp. I take mine in the evening between 5-7 with my crestor and zebeta. In the morning I take synthroid and the xbeta. I never heard any thing about taking my crestor separate from cumadin. I used to take them at bed time, but then when I went for my blood work up the nurse said why do you wait so long. so I switched to evening. and yes I get like an indigestion, some times my food feels like its cumming up. let me no what happens. I use one of those AM/Mid Day/PM pill boxes available at any pharmacy and fill up a week's worth at a time then simply look at the little box due for that period to see if I've done it or not. Works well and is quite efficient. > Lil, you have introduced yet another wrinkle---is it an error to take the lipitor and coumadin together?? If you look up the side effects of Lipitor muscle aches are pretty high on the list and I'd suggest asking your doc to switch to another statin. Why do you take digioxin? Obviously because your doc suggests it but there sure is a lot of inputs on this and other Boards that it is no longer recommended. Guest guest
I'm taking Digixon in a very small dose - I think it helps me. I know they all have down-sides and good-sides. I've been taking it for about a month and so far so good. It may well be the way to go for other types of fib or other heart issues. --------------------- Gordon, do you know why it's no longer recommended for a-fib? Dr. Natale said I should continue on it since I can't take any of the other meds, and to try to keep my rate under 100 when I do go into a-fib, which is successful sometimes and not others. Appreciate your input, especially since I'm on day 4 of this current attack, only 5 days out from the last 8-day attack, so I'm getting pretty concerned about the progression at this point. Since I have no ablation options and guess I just have to live with it, input from others, especially about the only med I can take, is critical to me. Thanks. Guest guest
Shelby, we've had similar reactions to our meds. I was taking Lipitor and Coumidin for several years before I started getting the same symtoms of leg aches and feeling as thought they weighed a ton everytime I went up the stairs. The doctor changed the Lipitor to Provocal and the aches went away. Each statin can effect your body differently and time on the particular statin can also have an effect. There are so many statins out there that one can be replaced with another rather than to go off it. So, it probably is not the combination, but the particular statin. As far as weight, I was always able to eat everything and whatever quanties I wanted and not gain a pound. Since AFib, I can look at food and gain weight around the middle. Age and some hormonal changes may come into play, but I think that the meds - Fecinaide and Atenolol have slowed down my metabaolism. Its very hard to take off my extra pounds and to keep them off. I would rather my heart and metabolism slow down and chunk on the pounds, than to have my metabolism speed up, slim down and be in AFIB. I'm grateful that these medications exist and my doctor has quessed right so far. Guest guest
Thanks for the insight Diane. Your symptoms and mine mesh entirely. New Statin here I come. Do you think the cat should get a whirl on it first? Hmmm...I love Manhattan and Statin Island too. Toni: I got my information from Hans Larsen's book on Lone Afib where he says that it could make Vagal Afib worse and is of no help for other Lone Afib conditions. I'd certainly follow what Dr. Natale says, however. If you can't tke other medication I guess you take what you can live with and hope the good outweighs the bad.
