Guest guest
I just tried the Custom Probiotics yogurt starter powder for my goat milk yogurt because their starter doesn't contain any cow's milk. I used 2 " baby scoops " for 1 quart. The yogurt came out different from when I use the Yogourmet starter - less tart and a bit lumpy. Has anyone else had this experience? Does it matter? Guest guest
Hi Katy and Debbie T, Do you know what the CP starter is derived from if not cow dairy? Do they have a vegan one? Thanks! Jodi
Guest guest
The ingredients are only " L. acidophilus, S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus " - there's no skim milk powder, sucrose, or ascorbic acid like the Yogourmet has. I don't know where the culture actually comes from. Guest guest
Katy - On the phone the CP owner had told me to use 1 or 2 baby scoops if I'm only making 1 quart. I think the baby scoop is 1/10 or 1/8 of the regular scoop, so 2 baby scoops should be about the same as 1/4 regular scoop, about the same proportion that you're using. I wonder if the Yogourmet is more tart because of the other ingredients in it or because the 3 bacteria are listed in the opposite order, apparently with more bulgaricus and less acidophilus in the Yogourmet. Debbie > > I use CP and use a l/2 scoop of the he one that comes with it for a half gallon. I'm not sure how much is in a baby scoop because the reg. scoop isn't big. It will be less tart. Everyone says that my yogurt isn't as tart as the Yogourmet starter. I'm not sure why it's lumpy though, did you stir it to mix? Maybe it's just that you used to much starter. Not being sure why it's lumpy, it's hard to say that it is okay though.
