Elaine Gottschall used to tell the story of how the president of the

company that makes aspartame just happened to have lunch, or play golf or

something with one of the big movers and shakers of policy, and, lo and

behold, here comes a study or two which demonstrates how unsafe

saccharine is, and how much better it would be for everything to be made

with aspartame.

If you don't like honey, make pear sauce, or apple sauce, and use that to

sweeten things.

I would say that you should try different brands of honey and

different kinds. I tried a mesquite honey and did NOT like it. I

like clover honey. There are tons more out there and, to me, they do

have different flavors based on what flowers/plants the bees came from.

It may take some time for you to get used to honey since your

tastebuds and body are used to the taste of sugar.

You can also cut back on the amount of honey you use in recipes. So

instead of using 1/2 cup, use 1/3 cup and see if that makes a

difference. Maybe you'll still get the sweetness without the

overwhelming taste of honey?

Hello,I wasn't a big honey fan pre-SCD either. I got used to it and have come to really like it. And, as others have mentioned, different honeys taste different. Some are mild, some are strong. I prefer clover honey. It's amazing how your tastes will change after you've been on the diet for a while. I used to hate broccoli and it had to have lots of cheese sauce on it, in order for me to eat it. I love the stuff now. And now I prefer steak medium...pre-SCD, I wouldn't touch it if there was any pink at all. I still don't like yogurt. I can choke it down and it's not as bad as it used to be but I don't enjoy it....maybe one day :-)Best wishes,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999, SCD 2002

I am fairly new to this diet and have made cheese cake with Honey.

I realized the reason I never eat Honey is because I really don't like

it. It's not even like I'm a picky eater or anything in fact I don't

know of anything else that I dislike except for honey. Maybe calves

brains and dim sum chicken feet. So my daughter says there must be

some sweetener and I tell her Saccharine. "Isn't that carcinogenic? "

she replies. So what do I do. I just made the cheese cake with ground

up hazelnuts and no sweetener and I must say it really doesn't

resemble food at all.Do I just get used to never eatting anything sweet?
