Guest guest
DO I NEED TO MAKE CHANGES? Some background: I am within days of starting. Things are not good. Monday, Tuesday and maybe Wednesday were nourished with SCD advanced to include salad, apples, oranges, cashew and smooth peanut butter (I was relying on legal/illegal list only). BAD. Then my BTVC book showed. Also found Recipe's by Stages that was very helpful. Thursday was almost 100% meat, chicken and pork chops because I ddn't have all the stuff. Thursday night I had baked apples with a spoon of the bad yogurt (another mistake, did not cool to room temp and realized later that the yogurt starter was not right. I'll stop cooked apples till things are better. I have the Yogourmet Maker. Friday and Saturday we fanatically followed the Intro, I think. Meat, mostly chicken thighs, and gelatin with grape juice or orange juice. Some DCCC (I'm sure that will be good with fruit or on a legal cracker some day) that is not so paletable now. Grape juice diluted 1:1 with sparkling water was great. Maybe another spoonful of jogurt with DCCC and a shot of honey. My correct yogurt will be available later today. I take multi-vitamin with iron till it is gone, then I'll eliminate the iron. The paprika I have seasoned my chicken with has been eliminated because it has silicon dioxide. I continue to tweak but I don't know what to add or take away. BUT Today, instead of things getting better, the trips have increased. Darker and less volume. Less mucus. Trips were something that I could rely on being a morning thing and now it seems to be risky all day. So I cannot judge that my diet choices are good. Today I have already been 3 times. Is it diet or drugs? I take Enticort EC and Lialda and Previcid for Barretts Esophugus, Low dose of Propanalol every other day and a generic Lotrel for BP every other day. I take Oscal(calcium) and the multi with Iron. This morning I took 2 Lomotil. What can I do to see progress? Or, am I being impatient? I understand that I am not to be on Intro beyond 5 days. Thanks in advance for your help
Guest guest
Hi , You need to make A LOT of changes. I did the same thing as you while waiting for my BTVC book to arrive, I ate everything that was legal and it really hurt me because my gut was damaged and a lot of the legal stuff is considered advanced. SO, you really need to stick to the intro diet. Homemade chicken soup, beef, some eggs, the juice jello and yogurt in small quantities until you know you tolerate it in larger quantities are some of the main things. Read the book about how you begin and do the intro correctly, then slowly introduce other legal foods. Many people begin with zucchini (peeled and de- seeded), butternut squash, and carrots for veggies and very ripe spotted bananas or apples for fruits, all peeled and no seeds, cooked (except the banana). I would remove the orange juice right away, even diluted, sometimes that can cause problems. Stop eating peanut butter, it is also an advanced food. It is good that you noticed your seasonings had additives and you have since removed them. Keep paying attention to that kind of stuff because it can make all the difference in your healing. For your medications and supplements...check them to see if they are legal. There is a calcium that I take from Lucy's Kitchen that is SCD legal and my multi is from there too. You are right to consider not taking the iron, but there are other ways you can get extra iron if you need it (liver, using cast iron pans, extra dark leafy greens(when you tolerate them). You also need to be patient. Give the diet a month at least to see if it helps. I do not think that more frequent elimination is necessarily a bad thing. If you have eaten a traditional SAD diet for a while, you might have a lot of " stuff " that is being cleansed out of you. Less mucous is a good thing. Dark doesn't have to be bad either, many people report green when they are doing the diet correctly and it is working to cleanse and heal. I don't know about the Lomotil and your other prescriptions, so I cannot say anything about those. So, to sum it up, read your book closely and make your changes. You have made some good changes already, but you cannot blame the diet when you are not following it to the letter. Ask questions if you need help, there are lots of people who can help you. Guest guest
I just want to say what happened on our end. My 14 year old daughter has celiac disease and an overgrowth of d-lactate bacteria in her gut, which is why we started the diet on Oct. 1. We just went right into the diet, eating the stuff you can eat on it. By Thanksgiving, she got diarrhea (which she hasn't had before from celiac disease or anything.) Thought maybe it was a flare. We then were told to do the intro of the diet which we had never done. Within 1 meal on it, her diarrhea pretty much stopped. Pretty amazing. We did the intro for 5 days and then have been trying to do the stages. We aren't far into the stages which is real frustrating to her. I'm not sure if that helped you at all or answered any of your concerns but I thought I'd mention it. She has food intolerances to all dairy, peanuts, almonds, egg whites and pineapple, so it makes the diet a little harder to do too, especially the dairy because she can't have the yogurt. And she's losing too much weight. But she had been unable to go to school because of extreme anxiety because of her gut being messed up, and the diet has helped because she now has hardly any anxiety and she's back to school, etc.Huge answers to prayer. To everyone else out there, I wrote the other day about her real bad gas. We eliminated olive oil, her probiotic, squash and the nut cookies for a few days. I see a big improvement. She hasn't had gas constantly. - only very occasionally. It still smells bad but it's more do-able with it not being constant. And she was able to go ice skating with youth group and really had fun. They ate at Mcs, but she took her pork chops and veggies in thermos like containers and just ate that. And it was ok. She feels like a freak when every other teen can eat burgers, fries and shakes. But this experience will make her a stronger person. All I can say (and I know I keep saying it), but the Lord is good. He has answered so many prayers concerning her.
